Thats why there is an arguement about funding space travel, space technology etc.
OK, take for example how much money the US goverment spend on space travel, when there much poverty, you could argue, surely better spend helping starving people than making fancy rockets to make political statements, but..............
At some point in the future, with absolute certaintainty, we will need to travel away from this planet. And you have to start thinking about it sometime. But the sun imploding isnt going to happen for a VERY long time.
But I agree with others, as much as I hope it doesnt happen in our lifetime, or our kids, and kids after that, I do think something will wipe us out, probably a giant space rock, if not ourselves through nuclear wars.
The things with nuclear wars, is even a terrible one, only a few humans need to survive. Same with some really nasty desease, look at aids or small pox, always some exception that simply dont get affected. A giant space rock is game over.
I dont know why goverments dont take it more seriously, I think there is an attitude that it'll never happen to us, a bit like the UK goverment and coronavirus, and look what happened there. We are starting to have the technology now, and with serious investment more so for asteroid detection and diversion. If you know about it early enough only the lightest of forces is needed to deflect an asteroid off course. In my opinion, outside of us destroying ourselves, is the most prominent threat to humanity.
