What is the longest you have gone through a video game (PC / Console) without knowing a basic abilit

I completed DeadSpace without knowing you could use the stasis on the Necro-things to slow them down, thought you could only use it on Machinery.

I watched a video and saw the Necro-things slowed down by the stasis option I thought to myself ...that would have been handy.

GTA2 i didn't realise you could actually make your guy burp and fart, thought he was doing that himself even though i was pressing circle.

Reached disc 4 of final fantasy 8 without junctioning magic to anything.

Really? I'm playing FF8 at the moment (courtesy of Steam's remake), and there are automatic tutorials that pop up when something technical crops up. E.g. junctioning a summon to your character, how to draw magic, and then how to assign magic to the summons to boost their stats. Bit like using enchants or gems in WoW :-)

Not until getting a good distance through my first play through of fallout 3 did I realise you could "Fast Travel" literally walked everywhere for quests...

The only benefit being within a few days I knew the map like the back of my hand.

As I remember right there was one quest in particular for Moira (wasteland survival guide) in which you have to travel to minefield to collect unexploded mines.

Died a stupid number of times (not knowing how to disarm a mine) and walked back each time. 5 hours later quest complete... but boy did I know that route well.

I got to the last 10 minutes of The Last of Us without realising you could upgrade your player's stats. Was playing on hard too!...and got stuck in the last section of the game.

2-3 hours into FEAR which out using slow motion....

I used it once, in the final fight. :o

I did spend several weeks playing Chivalry: Medieval Warfare without realising that you could zoom with some of the ranged weapons, and a few more on Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior without realising that you could drink rum to heal yourself as a pirate. Sometimes just jumping into games isn't the best way to learn stuff. :p
