What is the Matrix

I still don't get the bit where they talk about Zion being rebuilt before several times and that Neo had predecessors who failed or something like that. Can someone please explain that?

I think the gold stuff he sees at the end implies that either he is a messiah of some sort with real powers or that they are still trapped in the matrix (or a different part of it).

The huge war had happened loads of times, and there had been several different people the humans found within the Matrix who they believed to be "The One". They failed to stop the machines destroying Zion, each time they destroyed it there were some survivors, who rebuilt the city and started the cycle again.

I don't see what there is to understand really :p

The One is an imperfection in the Matrix as well. So to persuade The One to give up his damaging code, the Architect of the Matrix gives him the choice of either returning to the machine mainframe and picking a limited number of people to rebuild Zion, or letting all the people connected to the Matrix die.

But the significance to me about the gold one is because when he's in the "matrix" its green and he can do all that lovely superman stuff. When he gets blinded in the real world though and then begins to see in gold I think the film makers were hinting that all is not actually as it seems.

The gold plane of reality in the matrix is what some people refer to the astral plane.

Talking about the film.

Anyone every see the bit in the 3rd film when neo can see things in Gold but apparently he's supposed to be in the "real world" they never got round to explaining the matrix within a matrix.

Did you actually watch the films?
The Architect explained it, or someone did, by explaining how The One's powers extended across both worlds.

Zefan - Boo!

sorry if this has already been mentioned, haven't read whole thread.

i think the green was because everything was fake and code, where as the bright light which neo said was beautiful was because it was the real beautiful world just he was looking at it with a differenet perspective, like cup half full type thing, everyone saw the machines as evil guys, but when you actually look at them, there chunks of metal that the human has put life into which is amazing

The humans started the war you know...
Make a machine that's smarter than you and then banish it, persecute it and deny its forgiveness when it offers the hand of friendship and cooperation.
The Animatrix is a great DVD for anyone who liked the films :)

It's so true, are there any other trilogies that went steadily downhill like the matrix did?

The first movie rocked, the following were awful.

I normally find that with trilogies, the first is good, the second awful, the 3rd better.

Happened with X-men, Spiderman, Shrek, as more recent examples.
