What is the MG ZS like?

Hello all,

recently pulled in is a blue '04 reg MG ZS with a 2.5L V6.

I've only seen the car from the outside, it's got some light damage on the front, drives fine (so I'm told).

I quite like the look of yet, I'm going over to have a closer look at it on the weekend then see if I can get an insurance quote on it...

Question is, do people know much about them here?

running costs? common issues? avoid like the plague?

Looks like a tidy motor all in all hadn't even considered one of these as a next car for a year...

thoughts? :)

They are nice cars, Rover really sorted the handling out on the 180 despite the slightly heavier engine and they have quite reasonable performance. The KV6 doesn't tend to suffer from the head gasket problems of the 4 cylinder engine, but do check for any cam belt damage.

Cheers bud :) I'll get a full service and check done on it if I buy it.

They tend to be a bit thirsty however, and they are in tax band F which is going to sting a bit when the increases come in.

No different to what I pay now tbh...plus if I get this car for £1400 and sell mine for around £1800 I'll actually make a profit! :D

Let's ring some insurance peepless

Deffo do this, if its just a light front end buy it, good car for the money :)

I just rang, engineer just marked it as a C.

Right, Dad also said it's got some light damage on the back. Push/Shove incident...so from what I saw of the front, new chrome grille, front bumper and as a guess rear bumper along with straightening on the jig.

I've got loads of family in the Motor trade, so parts shouldn't be hard to get or expensive and the work for it will be easy to get done.

I need to have a proper look at it to be honest, inside and out, see how bad the damage is.

Might see if I can get it brought home on the back of one of the transporters and have a nose tonight :)

If the car itself is straight, drives straight etc, I'd absolutely go for it.

£1,400 is a steal for that car.

Oh, has it got the nice big flat spoke wheels? I'll do you a deal on those if it has ;)

It has those wheels ;)

How much do you want em Andy? - are you willing to beg? ;)

Can't wait till I have a proper look at it! Spoke to my insurance company who want £300 to switch to the MG - I asked them how much renewal would be in a few months time and they couldn't tell me...so I'm a little wary and need to do some more research into it...

Andy, will you be about tonight mate? be good to pick your brains if I can! :)

Rover buddy.... ;)

I'm going to find one and try and get a test drive this weekend! :)

That's also when I'll get a proper look at it, and see what damage has occured.

If anything it might be worth while, buying it - repairing it and selling it on :)

Bad news...it was sold at 5.35 today :(:(:(:(

It's given me an ideas as to what I want though :)

I'm well gutted because I really liked that car, but I'll hunt around autotrader and stuff to find another. My friend who works in Adrian Flux done me a good quote today and saved me about £700 - so insurance isn't a problem. Still gutted though :( had my hopes set on that car!

ah well! onto Pistonheads!
