What is white privilege?

I know this is a few weeks old news, but does anyone else find this statue laughable? I mean it's brilliantly sculpted, clearly a very talented artist. But I mean, what he's sculpted. Really?

That's pretty hideous, and it's hardly insightful to quote @Dis86.

If they want to make a statue depicting a black woman that's great and I'm all for it, but why some fat woman wearing jeans and a shirt that's engrossed with her phone?

Why in the middle of what appears to be a random field?

What exactly is it trying to depict, sloth?

It just looks totally out of place and isn't at all tasteful.

An overweight woman glued to her phone? Yep that's really representing black women in a good light. Why couldn't the artist have picked someone like Mary Seacole?

Exactly.

Surely the point of a statue of a person is to celebrate an individual or at the least beauty? I realise that there's exceptions to this but generally there's a point behind them.

There's plenty of historic figures that could have been chosen, so why some random fat lazy looking woman glued to her phone? The only thing it depicts is some of the worst aspects of a certain generation, it's not at all complimentary.

This is the sort of thing I'd want to see:

Lol, that's exactly what it looks like! As has been said, sculpt a role model like Mary Seacole.

Price said this work is his first individual full figure representation of a woman, and about “balancing experiences of isolation and connectedness, whilst acknowledging the different ways in which technology mediates our lives". He created the woman in a casual but engaged pose to counter those of large historical sculptures of white men, and bring out the value of “the everyday”.

What a load of old tosh

OMFG YOU GUYS ARE SO RACIIIIISSSSTTTT!!!! :p

There's a great example of white privilege here. Piers Corbyn fined £10,000 for organising an anti-lockdown march where people aren't wearing masks. Sasha Johnson not fined for organising the "Million People March" where people are not wearing masks.

Surely thats black privilege?
The Metropolitan police have backed down on a threat to investigate the organiser of an antiracism protest for attempting to stage an unlawful gathering under coronavirus regulations, after accepting that as a political protest it was exempt.

Surely both of those gatherings are political?

The first is campaigning against what they see as political oppression (ie: lockdown).

I'm confused. Sounds like a bit of mental gymnastics to avoid upsetting people and causing further unrest to me.

Either way what a stupid exemption. Having a political point to protest about makes you immune to Bat AIDS - fantastic!

Neither protest should've gone ahead, but they're scared of offending BLM so they give them an exemption because otherwise they'll start rioting.

You're literally getting angry about the news reporting what a few mentally ill people on Twitter have said. In case it is new to you, Twitter is literally a holding pen and open discussion forum for people who are so mentally damaged that they use Twitter.

If anything, we should be mad that the media are irresponsible enough to report this garbage outrage. Imagine any newspaper reporting on John Q. Nobody's Facebook status update about how his evening farts taste compared to his morning ones...
