What is with the attitude of builders?

I've noticed that builders/construction workers behave badly in the day time when they're working or on their breaks. I have contact with them when I’m on my lunch break and I go to the shop.

I’ve come across a few examples of these people being rude, but I’ve only felt the need to speak to someone about it after my lunch just, when I saw a big van with 3 burly blokes in the front stuffing their faces with food and what looked like 3 toddlers in the back (aged about 4-5 at a glance, I could be wrong). The front 3 builders in the van were shouting at the top of their voices to a young girl reversing out of her parking spot all sorts of lewd, vile comments.

What is their problem? Why do they behave like this?

I think it's a union requirement, during the week. At weekend, they're all off at the country estate either fox hunting or quaffing champagne.

I think they just lack the ability to communicate like normal people.

I swear that some of the guys in the warehouse at work are Orcs.

killsta - lol no, sorry - they were strapped in. this van was big it had 3 front seats, 3 back seats then a big trailer section on the back

Scary enough, think it was a good couple of nights ago, there was a TV program about Sex on the Jobs: Tradesman... admittedly, most of them don't look like orcs/ogre when they were confessing to doing this and that to women whilst on the job - but it just goes to show, they aren't all that bad...
:o

Had images of a transit with 3 kids playing in the back for a minute!

That would be interesting in an emergency stop ;)

Unfortunately the 'lower-end' building industry does often attract a lot of society's monkeys...

Nonetheless, I have had a lot of experience with builders/contractors and I would say the majority of them are not like that.

The worst of the bunch bring the reputation down - and unfortunately, the worst of the building bunch are a right bunch of troggs.

trickyj - yea I can imagine that not all of them are like this.

Its got on my goat today mainly because the way they treated this girl was so bad, I felt absolutely dreadful for her. It was disgusting, completely uncalled for comments they were making that you couldn’t even imagine being said out loud.

Then the fact this was taking place in front of some of their kids didn’t do them any favours with me.

I also notice they seem to look down their nose at me in my suit, as if I’m scum. Some of them seem to do stuff like invade my personal space by standing as close as they can without bumming me in the queue in the shop, and loudly sighing, and tapping their feet/keys etc to seemingly try and pressurise me !?!

Next door it's Barratt Homes, a bunch of thick necked, red faced, burly handed ex builders who's suits don't fit that have somehow managed to work their way up off the site into the head office. The toilets they use resemble the bogs in a Wetherspoon on a Saturday night. They are like a bunch of teenagers, the whole 'after you' bravado going through doors and everyone is called mate, chitchat like they are down the pub.

I've got nothign against builders, I did a bit of it myself when I was hard up, but some of them do nothing to help their cause. Most of them are just shaved head football supporting thug Sun readers anyway.

CHAVS

After school if chavs decide to make it through the entire 5 year, they either become dolers or bricklayers (minority decide to do something within construction but a little different)

What your witnessing is chav behaviour

Apparently there is a genetically closer link between

some lower 'strata' humans and monkeys

than between said humans and thinkers/scientists like plato, Da vinci, Einstein etc.

:D

I might be wrong but some builders I've encountered don't seem capable of making their own decisions either. I.e. I see one of them buying a sausage roll, and all of the others standing around making a nuisance of themselves, with contempt for everyone else in the shop, not letting them pass in the aisle etc....then they all see one (the ringleader, I assume) has selected a sausage roll, so they all pick up sausage rolls. What must be going through their mind ? "Sausage roll, someone else has picked a sausage roll and I don't want to be the odd one out by having a sandwich so I'm going to pick a sausage roll".

Sadly builders are one of those rare instances where the sterotype perfectly reflects the reality.

Err no it doesn't. My Dad runs a building firm and the blokes he employs aren't in the "get ya **** out" crowd. Don't judge all builders because of the demerits of some, it's just stupid.

Evidently your education is of a much higher standard!

well yes it did remind me of chav behaviour, but some of them genuinally seem to think they are a cut above other people, in the shop, in their van staring people out who walk past, pointing or whatever.

Also have you ever noticed people doing that thing when they're in a crowd of a few people, they look at you and smile or laugh and pretend that everyone in the crowd is looking at you and laughing, but if you observe closely they're just doing it on their own :S
