What is wrong with milk these days? It's not milk

Yeah I think you're right, to baulk at the thought (ie: hesitate) rather than the noise of the retch, which is probably the boke or boak.

I think that you can use balk or baulk when unwilling to do something, just as you can
use boke or boak as Scots slang for throwing up.

Do they sell milk in glass bottles still?

Need to ban them pretty quick before someone goes out on a killing spree with one.

Cattle are descended from Aurochs a now extinct species as a consequence of selective breeding by humans, so we did kind of make them. It's a north western european genetic change that must have had very strong evolutionary advantage. Also milk tastes ace, I prefer the flavour of full fat these days. Tried some unpasteurised unhomogenised milk recently it goes off super quick like 48 hours even in the fridge. A stronger taste too. I imagine diet plays a big part in flavour if you told me cattle on high feed diets made less enjoyable milk I could believe it. Cetainly eggs are highly dependent on the food quality in my experience.

At least our milk is ok. When abroad on holiday I always drink black coffee unless the place offers either almond, coconut or oat milk (other non dairy milk is horrid). As the milk abroad is awful. Though finding a cafe offering non dairy milk of the above is like winning the lottery. Also avoid cereals too. What’s the thing with Brits NEEDING bleeding cornflakes for breakfast?

Oi some of you balking at milk. Explain then if milk is so gross and only for babies, explain cereal, tea and milk, coffee and milk, hot chocolates, macaroni and milk. So many meal preparations require the mixing of milk. Sometimes from time to time I like a refreshing glass of milk.

Yes, that looks like the stuff we used to get delivered back in '80s. Exactly the same bottle with a silver top. I'm tempted to give it a go.

What are their delivery times like? Does it actually taste like milk?

I've never tried it. Maybe I'll give it a go as a last-ditch attempt.

Milk in the 80s, left on the front step with fresh morning rolls. Hearing the milk truck rattling anytime between 6 - 9am. Then popping those thick silver tops.:eek::eek::D:D:D

Indeed. Someone said to me recently, thinking they were being funny, "I wonder who the first person was who squeezed a cow's udder and thought, 'I'm going to drink this'"? Well, that's the whole reason cows exist. Imagine creating a species just so you can use its resources [and kill it]. Kind of impressive.

I'm talking about supermarket milk. It doesn't taste like milk, it's just like white water. It doesn't curdle when it goes off, it turns into a thick paste overnight even before its "use by". God knows that they've done to it, but's not actually milk. Even Yeo Valley milk is not milk.

I'm pretty sure that brand is unhomogenised.

Just get Cravendale if you're at the supermarket. Lovely stuff.

LOL, it's the total opposite of what you want though. I agree with Worthy, filtered milk like Cravendale is indeed lovely stuff, but it's arguably the most modern of the modern style milk you're complaining about. It's basically super-pure homogenised milk with a much longer shelf life than most! Whereas you want old-school, bits of cream floating to the top milk.

Oh, OK. Dairy it is then. Maybe I'll just give Much Milk or whatever they're called the gate code. As long as they don't come too early in the mornings.

Dowie does make a really good point. It’s not the milk where you’ll pull the silver cap off and have lumps of cream there. Tastes lovely though, I’d still give it a try.
