exactly the same. can't remember how far i got as i would have played it 8 years ago or so so would have been 13 and i just remember not wanting to play it anymore but really wanting continue. was a vicious cycle LoL
Doom 3 for me. I could see about 90% of the jumps coming......but I still jumped Some of the little scripted moments were very nice too. Found it about 10x jumpier than the AvP games, even if the actual game itself wasn't quite as good.
Found Silent Hill series really boring the stupid fog and line of sight just means, sooner or later, that something is going to jump out of the fog *yawn* I'd prefer it to be fully visible.
Resident Evil series was good (especially as I was younger then) and could genuinely scare you.
AvP was great as well! Clive Barkers Undying was another one and Realms Of The Haunting. All damn good games as well as scarey.
HL2 was quite scary, esp when you heard the rattle of one of the poison headcrabs, or when a headcrab jumped out at you in an air vent. Also got tense when the gunship thing warmed up it's guns just before firing.
But Doom 3 takes it for me, if only because it was so dark.

Resident Evil 4 for me, walking through the village and you can hear zombies but not see them, and then you get grabbed from behind and skip a few heart beats
