** What keyboard and mouse do you use? **

Space Monkey, have you been able to test out other switches? Any reason you liked the blue switches more?

The Ducky Shine 3 seems quite the mechanical keyboard of choice (plus that G602 sounds spot on for me). I've always wanted to venture into mechanical but I have no ability to test different switches which scares me for such a high price point. Reviews seem to differ on switches based on personal preference alone.

Hey trentlad,

I've had a play on browns, reds & blues, though I only got to play with the others after I first decided to buy my current (and first mech board) :p

My thinking, rightly or wrongly, was that if I'm spending this sort of money on a decent keyboard, then the last thing I wanted was a keyboard that felt and sounded the same as the cheapo boards I've been using until now, and plus the fact that I actually like the sound of the click/clack of the mech boards! One thing that I've noticed is that all standard mech boards have a clatter sound when the keys are pressed, even the reds, its just the blues have an additional higher pitched click when pressed (I mention this as from researching I was lead to believe that only the blues have a clicking, when in reality they have an 'additional' clicking).

I also chose the blues as I type a lot more than I game, and when I game I use a controller anyway, so that narrowed my choices down to blues or browns.

I was in the exact same position as you, I didn't have the chance to test any boards prior to purchase, and was worried it was all hype and that I'd feel like I've wasted my money, but from the first few minutes with my Ducky Shine 3 I was smitten, and wondered why I had put up with cheaper keyboards all this time! Also remember, that if you buy from OCUK, then you have 14 days to test it out and return it if you really don't like it? Though I think you'll be fine :)

Also, one thing I've noticed with this keyboard, is that for the first time ever I haven't had to use the legs to raise the board to be comfortable, just an observation that's all but may be useful?

With regards to the G602, it is without doubt the best mouse I have ever bought and used, and I've had a few high end mice over the years, it is low slung so suits a full palm grip and not a cramped claw grip, and all the buttons are in easy reach, it just feels so comfortable to use and I have since stopped getting RSI type cramps in my hand even after long periods of use :)

Hope some of this helps? :D

That's brilliant information mate, thank you very much!

Looks like I found my KB+M combo :D

Cool, no worries :)

I hope you like them, I know I do :)

Here is a couple of pics of the keyboard for you:

Mechanical keys aren't for everyone but I swear by them personally, blacks are in general PC gaming context pure FPS gaming switches (their other strengths aren't all that relevant to PC use IMO), reds great general purpose gaming switches and ok for typing, browns a good general switch that are ok for gaming, good for general use/typing then blues are the cream of the typing switch and ok for general use/gaming.

Don't buy into all this overpriced gaming branded stuff.

I'm using a £10 Logitech K120 keyboard and a Logitech MX300 mouse.

Even though my Sidewinder cost £30 it has definitely been worth it, the amount of times I have used the media keys alone, plus I have to have a backlight because I want it ;)

Rroff, I've been trying find an actual users real life opinion of the switches so this is fantastic. Thank you!

How do you think gaming would suffer for a blue switch user?

I've just got a cheap Dell keyboard and a Logitech MX500 mouse. I've had them for years and really like them, I'd love a new mechanical keyboard and new mouse, but I don't want to risk spending money on something that I won't like as much as my current setup.

Currently using a Corsair K95 (with dead LEDs :(), a Logitech G13 and a Logitech Performance MX. Think I'm going to replace my K95 for a Roccat Ryos MK Pro today due to the K95's dead LED widespread problem.

Not sure I can give anything other than a vague answer to that as it depends quite a lot person to person.

My opinion is that blues and browns make for very deliberate input - possibly might suit people who have a more measured pace gaming style and anticipating things in advance. Whereas red and blacks tend to favour people like me who are very +forward run and gun type players adjusting to things on the fly reactively where the other switch types just don't give you the fluid precision IMO.

Logitech G500 for a mouse
Logitech K310 for the keyboard. It's not special in real terms, except that it's washable and given I eat at my desk far too often it's worth it to be able to swill it regularly.
