What language would you learn?

Islamic... :) :p :D

Na for me id love to learn german , because then i can play german games before they arrive here

Personally I'd like to learn (in order)

Russian
Polish (lots of polish immigrants around my area)
Arabic
and then Chinese or Japanese

I speak a little French and a bit of German (although I understand quite a lot of written german)

I was wondering how many people here would be interested in learning another language. Or just wish they could speak. And if so what language would you want to learn/know and why?

Japanese, because generally i just really like the sound of the language, and would love to go out there sometime. (And chat up all those hot japanese babes ;) )

Also, would you make the effort to learn a few words of a language relating to the country you are visiting?

I always try yes.

Do you feel a bit embarassed or irritated when you go abroad and are completely clueless?

I feel stupid really. Although when they are playing stupid because my pronunciation or grammar ends up a bit off then im just annoyed that they are such jerks.

I'd only learn English, the English langauge is fast and I am proud millions and millions of people speak it, I can go to many countries and speak English, Ignorant No, Power of the British Empire YES to this day still.

i started learning russian last month, signed up at the brasshouse language centre in birmingham for the "absolute beginners" entry level course.. cost £100 but i'm very impressed with it :)

have always hated only being able to speak english but i never got on with french at school, the language doesn't interest me in the slightest.

once i've gotten comfortable with russian i'm planning to start on japanese :D

Thanks for cheering me up - that was great! :D

I speak French to some degree and i can get by in most situations with a lot of arm waving and sign language.

I would really like to speak a chinese dialect or arabic. Something completely and utterly alien.

I was lucky i did German and French at school, had good teachers and learnt some good basic stuff.

I would love to improve my Greek - it's emabrassing being 1/4 cypriot and not really being fluent, I can get by fine, and have simple conversations, but I should be better.

My arabic I'd love to get back up to scratch but I seldom go there anymore :( It's a fantastic language.

If I was allowed 2 to wake up being fluent in id have to go with Japanese and Mandarin/Cantonese (whichever was the hardest). In the similar way to learning european languages the more you learn the easier it is to work out the rest, id think learning 2 languages that are very difficult from a european point of view would allow me to go for almost anything else I wanted :)
