Probably Cantonese or Mandarin.
I will be self teaching myself Brasilian Portuguese very soon, I would also like to learn Italian,Freefaller said:This was prompted by reading Scuzi's thread about greetings in numerous languages I was wondering how many people here would be interested in learning another language. Or just wish they could speak. And if so what language would you want to learn/know and why?
Yes - as I need whilst in brasil earlier this year. Also, would you make the effort to learn a few words of a language relating to the country you are visiting?
Do you feel a bit embarassed or irritated when you go abroad and are completely clueless?
I'd agree with that, whilst in Brasil when the "little lady" spoke italian to her Mum or Dad it always sounded like they were fighting about something, leading me to panic and worry, then she would explain what it was about and I'd noramlly laugh about it.Italian is just SUCH a beautiful language - whenever I'm in Italy I just get weak at the knees hearing the people talk. Most of the time it's in a marina or a shipyard and it sounds like they are having a huge a fight all the timebut it's just fabulous to listen to.
No, I actually would like to learn it.Wyvern971 said:I never know if you're joking or not

I wouldn't mind knowing German because it's quite widely spoken/useful in Europe (I've already learnt English, French and Spanish)Freefaller said:what language would you want to learn/know and why?
Not worth the effort for the little amount of time I would actually use it.Furthermore if you're not interested in learning another language - why not?
Yes. I learnt a few words/phrases of Swedish before going there. Also, would you make the effort to learn a few words of a language relating to the country you are visiting?
No, because I've never been to a country where I've been completely cluelss. To be honest I'm more embarrassed about the actions of other people, you know, the ones who just go up to people and start talking in English. Seems kind of arrogant to me to not even attempt to converse in the local lingo.Do you feel a bit embarassed or irritated when you go abroad and are completely clueless?

I can already speak passable Spanish. I'd like to improve, but that's a pretty lame answer. So... I'd like to be able to speak Greek and Italian, just because I like how they sound. Portuguese is another one that I'd like to learn a bit of, because I want to visit Brazil one day.Freefaller said:And if so what language would you want to learn/know and why?
Yes, I always do - without exception. It's only polite, and I think that it improves your experience. Also, would you make the effort to learn a few words of a language relating to the country you are visiting?
I do a little, but I find that most people are receptive to newcomers - certainly much more receptive to people who speak a different language than we are in the UK.Do you feel a bit embarassed or irritated when you go abroad and are completely clueless?
