What "man jobs" have you done today?

Gardening today and tidied garage.. took the old pot contents (dead sunflowers etc) and rubbish up the tip.

Can't really do the borders until the grass has dried out a little and the temps aren't forecast for sub-zero again.. that's the fastest way to end up with a mud patch. Need to remove the lawn that's over flowing and put in a brick border around the lawn.

I think at the same time to redo the path too, remove a load of sand and put in some drainage into a runoff drain so that the lawn doesn't simply drown itself.

Also need to look at some fence posts..

Got to work on the tree on our back garden. It's taller than the house and I only have a manual saw. It has been emotional. Still the main body of it to come down but after three trips to the tip I'm done for the day.

With the impending arrival of a little platypus I've lost my "office" (read gaming/guitar den) and moved the computer downstairs. Unfortunately there whilst a desk and my monitor/kb etc fit perfectly in one of the alcoves there isn't room for the computer, so solution was to stick it under the stairs with the server and run cables under the floor to wall ports.

Unfortunately due to the fitting of the back box, the hdmi/usb socket is not the same way up as the 4 usb socket one, which really irritates the more anal side of me, but once my desk is in place you won't be able to see them so I'll just have to pretend :D.

Next weekends job is to strip all the walls, then the weekend after that plaster them, then the final job, is to lay the new floor (oak).

Well its a samsung panel, but driven from a high spec PC so fingers crossed. I tested the cable for a week before sticking it under the floor so fingers crossed :p.

At 5m you should be fine. The limit for HDMI is claimed to be 10-15 metres but I wouldn't risk anything more than 10. Just ensure you don't buy a 5m lead to plug from wall to PC :p Your faceplate will also introduce losses.

Update 3 on the loft and end of week 3 i think from the workers.

Still going very well, very minimal disruption to the house apart from cold creeping around upstairs as we are still without windows and radiators etc etc.

The guys at the loft conversion company are courteous though and cover the windows up each night with insulation etc.

A few things we would do different so far but all livable i think

On suite is 1.8 x 1.8 so not huge but gives us a second bathroom in the house so good enough

Head height is 204cm from the floor

Its 5.2 long from end to end and 4 ish meters wide at the wide point narrowing to 3.2 ish where the en suite is.

This is a big room in our house :) Quite chuffed to be honest

That looks a very similar size to our loft, what was your quoted total cost if you don't mind me asking ?

I reckon ours would be around 15k without a dormer, a mate of mind reckons he can get it all done for under 10k WITH a dormer

After breaking my back sawing most of our tree off with a hand saw, I treated myself to a new toy to bring down the main trunk.

£50 from screwfix and it does the job just fine :D Love my new toy.

It made short work of it...

We got a few quotes and are paying 30 odd k.

I think if you looked at it seriously and all the items required although they look like small amounts they seem to all add up quite a lot.

Such as, we have had 2 labourers here for nearly 5 weeks. Then days where there was 2 sparks, 2 plumbers etc, 2 gangs building the dorma There is still around 6 days work left for two people.

Steels, scaffold rental, wood wood wood, 3 skips, building control, surveys and structural engineers, Instillation, knocking down a wall and rebuilding a room, custom staircase, windows, radiators, velux's, plasterboard, floor board, drainage, roof sheet, handrails, doors, door fixings, plasterers x 3 days, screws and misc fixings plus god knows what else. I did question its value once i saw how kind of easy it looked but they have been quite busy the whole time.

Fitted a new living room door.

I may be wrong but I think you have the handle upside down. The sweep should be going down in that design. So that handle in the picture should be on the opposite side of the door and visa versa making it curve downwards.
The only reason I'm saying anything is I fitted some the way you have for a customer once and had to go back to swap them round after she informed me that they were wrong   :D :D

Today was unloading half of Ikea from the car, me and the woman have swapped room sso she is having the study with the hamsters and bunny, I have the big spare room for gaming, just need to shift some stuff and get a large table in for some desktop gaming :)

Bloody knackered

yeh that sounds more like it to me. not worth spending 30k on my house. I may add 10k value if I am lucky as we would lose a small bedroom to create a bigger one, so it would still be a 3 bedroom terraced house.
