What "man jobs" have you done today?

Second coat of paint on garden wall. Still need to go back and do the bottom section in black tomorrow.

It's covering up the streaks made by some troll who vandalised it with some black spray paint.

Looks nice but I've been timing the painting for the sunny days and the glare from the wet beige paint over a couple of hours made colours seem washed out outside and couldn't see much when I went back indoors where it was darker.

Need to get me some reactive lenses.

As the LED thread is pretty quiet, I'll post in here.

My man task for this evening was to install 5 Screwfix LAP LED bulbs... yeah, manly.

I have a 5 arm pendant in the front room which I have just installed. I screw in the bulbs and turn it on. Only 3 illuminate. I think great, two duff bulbs. I swap one of the working bulbs for one of the duff bulbs and try again. The working bulb now doesn't illuminate, but the previously duff one does. It turns out that two arms don't work...

So one last troubleshoot, I tried a Philips bulb in one of the duff arms, and it worked!

So I have some LAP bulbs which don't work in two specific arms, but a Philips bulb which works in all arms.

And an additional point, when the p[Philips bulb is on in one of the two non working arms, it destroys my DAB radio signal. But if I put it on one of the other three, the signal is unaffected...?

Has anyone come across anything remotely like this before?

Check the voltage on all of the arms

The bath was becoming progressively slower to drain out. I unsuccessfully tried a coil to unblock it then a plunger type device that blasts water down but that didn't work either. This also unwittingly disconnected the overflow pipe out the back of the bath and when I continued to try unblock the pipe it turns out all the water was flooding into the kitchen below :(

Finally sorted it after removing the bath panel and disconnecting all the joins. I managed to scoop out a hideous amount of hair and gunge from within. Rank. The day was topped off when half the plaster on the wall came off with the bath panel (mastic)... More work!

Just moved about 2 yards of gravel, half to 60 ft away and the other half a few feet to make way for the 13 pallets of block paving and small retaining walls that should be being delivered any minute now.

I still need to order about 10 yards of hardcore and 5 yards of sand for the base. Think I'm going to be very fit by the end of the installation! :( Luckily I can do a lot of the prerequisite work over a month or so.

installed a new ceiling light with LEDs and changed the light switch to a dimmer.

Worker in homebase said it was LED compatible but the dimmer only goes down halfway before they turn off :( Will maybe use the dimmer in the hallway and install an LED specific dimmer instead.

Dug out the front garden borders added half a ton of prime organic horse manure, topped off with top soil, re planted the boarders, then sat back and drank beer.

Go for Varilight dimmers. They can be had quite reasonably off Amazon. I have two and they're great.

Are your bulbs dimmer specific?

Yesterday - washed fishing kit, two cars and sorted out a few things.

Man job today - sorting out that inconvenient awkward piece of garden between the garage, the path and the little paved area. Currently you need to walk over the garden as the previous owners didn't extend the path to get to the area. The area is used for BBQs and may be used later for a little summerhouse.

Also re-did the edging between the grass and borders.

Tomorrow will see the relocation of the rosebush and the laying of the paving slabs. Not changing the slabs just yet - not until we decide what we want todo with the back of the house and an extension. I'll then have to cope with a rotten fence post that needs support but sits very close to the garage foundations - I think the post hole is in the foundation. The post is part of a made fence.. so one option is to use the router and chisels and make a new post to replace the old.. or break out some of the concrete and re-lay it but that could be more difficult. Also I'll bolt the post to the brick wall of the garage too.

Finished off fitting camera in facia board

Then cut the three lawn and edged them - looks a lot neater now.

Stuck some Weed killer on a load of weeds in gravel drive.

Found out why my garden was sinking!! turns out the previous owners had filled an old pond position with general building waste and asbestos from old soffit boards.
Ripped it all up bagged up asbestos sent it to my local waste site that accepts it and im in process of filling the big hole in.
All good fun in the lovely sunshine.
