What "man jobs" have you done today?

Replaced the kitchen oven yesterday (built-in electric single oven), turned out to be easier than expected,
Tesco wanted £99 to fit it, took me about 15 minutes, clearly I'm in the wrong line of work!

Lot of fail from me today.

Went to my mother in laws to fit some skirting as she's changed the fireplace and the skirting need sorting as the new marble base is smaller than the old one. Didn't have the right things with me so have delayed it.

Then went to my parents flat where they wanted to put some loft boards in. Turned up all set with the boards. Got into the loft and the lights weren't working. Gave my dad my wallet to go to screwfix to buy replacement flourescent bulbs but he couldnt find my card (it's in an outer section but still easy to see), think the staff then realised it wasn't his wallet and refused to serve him. Meanwhile i've establised the wiring in the loft space is crap and fed over joists rather than through them so need some wooden batons to sort that. Didn't have enough time to mess about going to buy wood so just loosely lay the boards around the entrance.

Then they'd had a quote to replace the kitchen and 2 bathrooms through their letting agent which seems very high. Tried and failed to get them to at least get a second quote as they say they dont have time to mess around.

Then came home and worked on my wifes desk. Things were going ok but can't seem to get a decent 45 degree cut along a 500mm section so i'm a bit ****** as it's gonna look crap if i dont fix it.

Started the penny floor in my Mum's kitchen today, you can just about make out the pattern she wants, alternate diamonds of shiny/dull coins. Tedious work but should look pretty good when done I reckon.

Wow, that's....... different!
How much surface area are you having to cover?! Won't it hurt bare feet?

Kudos for having the patience.

It's not a square floor so I'm not really sure on the sq/m of the floor, it's a galley kitchen with a fairly long centre aisle and then an open bit where a stainless prep table sits. Won't hurt feet, once they're all down you grout it and then finish it with a clear epoxy floor resin so you basically have a solid floor.

just couldn't do them 10 x 10 could you?...

:p

Did it purely to wind up the internet OCD merchants :p

TBH I went with what size "tile" suited the size of the floor and a size that gave me a nice even measurement to deal with for marking out (185mm x 185mm).

This is the easy part I reckon, the resin pouring is giving me nightmares.

Fair play on the floor. Will look awesome when it's done. Seen a few similar things like that recently - guy made a kitchen work top out of bottle caps.

I fixed our front door, it was binding at the bottom corner on the leading edge.
Will get a weather bar tomorrow hopefully and fit that soon and I need to adjust the bathroom door that isn't quite straight against the stop. Obviously I haven't actually done these things yet so will have to post again when I have :)

The resins not too bad to be honest. I did it on a bottle top table i made. Although yours is a much bigger area than what i did. My only issue was that the table edges which i built to contain the resin weren't level so it started running over the edge which was a nightmare.

Other than that it was pretty straightforward.

Put the bathroom light fitting up yesterday. Been trying to do it for 3 days, little set back when I realised I didn't have a chocolate block to earth it with, had to wait for delivery. Five minute job in the end and I'm 75% sure it's not going to electrocute anybody!

Yes building the "dam" so to speak is what's worrying me, the resin isn't cheap so I don't want it running off to places it doesn't need to be which would be a waste.

The grouting doesn't look like much fun either TBH, wish I'd never mentioned the bloody idea lol

Mine had a back boiler which was still connected to hot tank in loft - drained it off -sealed pipes at tank and took it all out - got a good price for the copper at local tat yard. - it's worth removing unless of course you want to use it.

Could always just ignore the grouting and let the resin flow in between the coins. It'd cost a bit extra though as like you say it's not cheap. Luckily mine was only around 60cm2

Fixed the patio door. Well the lock wasn't engaging, possibly because the frame slightly warped so the interlock pin wasn't going all the way in. As a result couldn't operate the handle to engage the bolts. No visible means of adjusting the pin so fixed a thin shim on the strike plate and - presto - can now operate the lock correctly. Wasn't going to spend £80 getting a locksmith out as it's a tatty old self built (by previous owner) conservatory which we're probably taking down in a year or two.

Just moved in to a new house so quite a few bits will be coming up.

First thing was the security light on the garage overlooking the driveway wasn't working and was badly corroded. Replaced it with an LED unit which seems great so far.

Next up will be installing a Yale security alarm (HSA6200 - bargain from Aldi at £45!) and then moving on to fixing up a few bits inside and decorating.

Finally moving on from post #3599 and Photobucket pics :o

Done all the tiling myself, I left the joinery, electrical and plumbing to the experts !

I bought the bath etc. before I removed the wall, I'd have bought differently knowing what I know now. I'm now getting ready to start on our shower room so at least I've a little bit more knowledge.
