What "man jobs" have you done today?

Stacked all the logs from a recent delivery in to our two stores and just managed to squeeze them all in !

Small intermediate store (double stacked)

and the big store, also double stacked bit a bit of triple stacking and right up into the rafters !

Like you I never threw anything away and swept up all the rubbish and bagged it - Using it now for quick fire at night.

Have to confess I am not happy with oak logs - don't seem as good as mixed stuff I had before -

How did they describe the load - In weight or volume - Can I ask how much ?? --- My3.6 cubic meters cost me £220 which I thought was expensive - Gone are days when I was getting it for £10 for two ton.

I think last time i bought some it was £55 and for that i got 1 ton of logs, 3 bags of kindling, and 2 bags of some eco friendly heat log things.

Where did you move it to?

Oh the wit and sarcasm of OCUK :p

They don't quote either its a "builder's bag", multiples of or Toyota pickup load.

The load is meant to be about 2 builders bags which is (at a guess) about 1.5 tonnes / 3m3 - that's a mix of hard and softwood, seasoned and ready to burn

I paid £135 for the load and £3/bag for the kindling - chopping block / log was free !

I keep most the sweepings as they burn well and also mix them with dried fir cones from the local forest

Sounds like a good deal :)

Continued my loft boarding project. Didn't have too much time last night, but the bonus with all my tools and materials being in the loft and out of the way is that you can pop up for an hour, do a bit, and then leave again without having to tidy everything up.

So I screwed down a few more loft legs and cleared out a load of old cruddy insulation along with old pieces of slate and roof batons from when the roof was re-felted.

Yeah thats always handy, the last few days i've finished work, gone to do some work at my mother in laws on the way home. Spent about 20 minutes getting everything out and set up outside. Work for 10 minutes and then it's started raining so i have to pack everything away again :(

Plus in a rush to beat the rain the other day i cut through the power chord with my router :( Gave me an excuse to buy one with a 1/2 collet though and it's making the work a LOT easier. Dissappointing that the Titan one doesn't come with a case though.

I've decided to put in a new fireplace and gas fire to replace the electric that was there.

A bit of hammering saw that I was digging in the correct place :p

I put a smoke bomb up to make sure all was clear, the smoke should have came out pot 2 but came out pot 5 ! So a liner is now needed.
Up with the cherry picker to drop a weight down to make sure it was clear, and measure the length needed.

Now that I knew the chimney was clear, carry on and extract all the rubble from the filled in fireplace, and it was filled to the brim with cemented in bricks and stones, not just boarded over.

Raped my front lawn with my new Bosch AVR1100 verticutter. Looks like the Somme now that I've also put iron sulphate down. Playing the long game though, as it's absolutely full of moss.

looks awful, but about to do the same to ours + petrol powered hollow tine aerator thing over the weekend - its going to look proper pants afterwards but an overseed and fertilise and hopefully we'll have an actual lawn next year :)

Mine seriously needs doing too. Whats the ideal time window in which do do it? Hopefully I'll be able to borrow a machine from a relative.

Spring and / or autumn according to lawnsmith.co.uk. I think we're nearing the backstop as the grass will stop growing fairly soon and new grass seed won't germinate, meaning it'll look rubbish until spring.

yup, its almost your last chance to do it - but ideally you want to put a moss killer on about two weeks before and get the grass cut pretty low before you start so might be too late now :(

Nooooooooo! :(

I had done some reading about this a few months ago and got the impression it should be autumn time before scarifying the lawn etc. Its only just turned Autumn. I guess I can wait until spring when I can be more prepared with the moss killer, tools etc.

If you scarify and seed this weekend you should be OK. If the grass seed fails it's hardly the end of the world...just do it again next spring.

I think I'll wait until spring now. I don't have the tools or seed, sand etc. A relative had a scarrifier machine that I'll try to borrow for the spring.
