What "man jobs" have you done today?

Maybe it's a rented house and they can't decorate it? Maybe they have just moved in? In any case, I don't really see the issue. I'm not a huge fan of shabby chic (I'm not sure I would class that as that either), but I do like to see old furniture being re-used or recycled and saved from the skip.

Yeah it's a rented house. Brightens the place up a bit, we like it. Dressers newer than the house anyway!

Anyway as much as we'd love to live in a cottage or a farm house, you can't have everything you want can ya.

Started small and stripped the box room...

The plaster is in an appalling condition. As far as I can work out the previous occupier (tenant) was using it as a clothes drying room, there were clothes rails where you can see the 3 holes in the wall (eek). Pretty sure the window was never opened either as it was locked with the key in a different room.. See pics.. I'll wait for some more knowledge opinions but I'm assuming this is going to be a hack-off and re-plaster job? Won't be able to get away with letting it dry out for a while and skimming?

That looks worse than it is I think.

Wait for the walls to dry off after you've packed them full of steam, scrape and sand to get the loose bits off.

Get some febond blue grit and grit it all instead of pva. Likely will need a bonding cost then a skim.

No need to hack it all off I don't think, just make sure any hollow sounding bits you whack off.

The bit around the window in particular crumbles at the slightest touch..

Wasn't steaming only spraying with stripper but windows are open and heating on so will see how it feels in a couple of days.

Looks pretty naff, but you'll be surprised what a reskim can sort! Best to ask a plasterer?

Could also get the electrics done before the skim/Replaster? looks like the box for that lightswitch hasn't been properly chased back into the wall?

We've just finished painting our kitchen and wanted to try and hide the 3 cables we have for the TV. Before it was in some horrid white trunking which just looked weird. Drilled into the wall to see if I could just feed the cables down but it's dot n' dab so there wasn't any straight way down - even had my endoscope out. Ended up giving up with rods and the endoscope and bought the Gekko Gripper - super strong magnet and worked a bloody treat. Had the cables routed within 30 seconds or so.

Plastered the box room ceiling, plastered the walls where the old plaster came off after removing the old skirting board.
One that dries got to fit new skirting.
