What "man jobs" have you done today?

Well, finally used my Cuprinol Spray & Brush, on my big fence, a bloody great buy, didn't take me long to get used to it, and didn't take long to do it all, all 8x 6ft panels, done in no time at all. :D

The brush is fiddly though, its too bulky, and sometimes when i was brushing, i was spraying too, as i was catching the trigger :p, but next time i use it, i'll just use one of my own brushes.

No idea why it's detecting along your entire wall unless their is some sort of metal support in place.
Fyi, the building regs state that cables can also be run in zones that measure 150mm down from the ceiling and 150mm out from corners. The theory is you wouldn't want to put anything (like a picture) in those areas. Obviously, this is in addition to the horizontal and vertical runs from any socket.

Are your neighbours houses now covered in paint:D. It's what put me off a spray system.

Could be, that would seem most logical. I don't need to drill anything more in that wall but was curious. Guess I'll never know for sure.

I just got a very similar detector delivered. You have to calibrate it in the area you'll read it, are you doing that?

Mine picks up mains wiring about 12 inches either side, unless I calibrate it right next to the cable.

Yeah I'm calibrating everytime. It does seem to be over-sensitive, if I grip the detector too high up near where it's sensing, the live wire light comes on.

For the speaker mount, where I wanted to drill it said it detected metal, but only at a single point and no live wire, so I was confident it wasn't a pipe or anything as it didn't pick up anything around it.
Not vertical/horizontal to any switches (there's only one outlet the entire wall and the opposite side of the wall) and not near the edge.
Drilling into it, about 1 inch in, it was more difficult to drill (I checked it was still concrete), got through it ok though with a bit more pressure.
Could there be some element mixed in with the concrete that the detector (in metal mode) can pick up?

Mounted another TV next to my desk for work. Got sick of having it on the floor for testing. It's almost too wide for the blinds!

Now I need to devise a special aiming tube so the remote control doesn't interfere with my main TV :o

Im gona have to take a couple of the panels off when the wind calms down, as with it blowing an absolute gale today (and supposedly all weekend), i noticed a couple of them wobbling like buggery, so i went to have a look, and found that the lat behind them, that they are fastened to the wall with, has come loose, so ive just fastened them together for now, with a lat along the back, at the top. :p
 
Ordered 5 tons of top soil for next week. Not gonna be funny lugging that from front to back of house.

Prices vary loads but I found a local quarry seemed considerably cheaper than most top soil specialists like dandys etc I googled.

He assured me it was screeded and a good grade. Meeting correct British standard etc.

Can I ask how much you paid for topsoil? I'm going to need a similar amount shortly but haven't got a clue what I should be paying.

£50 Inc vat is what I'm paying.

Although its not bagged like some deliveries tend to be, its gonna just be dumped on my drive so I'll be putting tarp down then getting it all moved ASAP.

Most garden centre / DIY type places are charging double what I'm paying.

I've never been beaten by a tap connector.

You can also wedge a block of wood against the tap to stop it spinning.

Had to get a 12" spanner for undoing one of the Liquid PTFE nuts.. lots of leverage :) Tried a tap wrench (12") with a 12" wrench off that giving 24" of leverage. No movement - think I will Dremel cut the nut and see where that goes.

You got a blowtorch? Heat the nut then maybe try again.
