What "man jobs" have you done today?

Yesterday, but didn't get round to posting it. Fitted sone new lights in the kitchen. Didn't appreciate how much of a mess plasterboard makes when's it's cut lol.

I hope you've checked that textured ceiling hasn't got asbestos in!

We get one of the local farmers to cut the side hedge every year and the top and roadside edge look great but I have to do the house side and like to cut back the Ivy at the same time, so why not on the hottest day of the year so far ...

Although overcast it is ridiculously hot - glad it's done (the clearing away takes longer that cutting it!) It's going to get hotter this afternoon and I intend to do as little as possible :D

Not a lot done this weekend.

Verticut (verticutted?) the back and front gardens removing a surprising amount of thatch and crap like AMG and then cut it low and overseeded... Probably looked like an idiot when I brushed the grass but it was to knock the seed down to the soil layer.

2-3 week and it should be better than ever and thickened up as a result of the seeding and verticutting - this slices the grass near the soil later to promote horizontal growth and thicken the sward

Repaired the hedge trimmer electric cable having used said hedge trimmer to cut through the very same electric cable yesterday morning…

Also got the pool out and filled ready to live in it for the next couple days, just need to find a floating desk tray for the laptop.

Ha ha ! I did the same last year (curring through the cable :D ) so overly conscious of it now !

Just started the sprinkler off to give the garden a good soak - may have to go and stand under it for a bit

Seriously considering going into the office tomorrow as it's full Aircon

Been told it should be OK as mid 90s, too late now anyway.
Should be, 1985 was when the main brand stopped adding it. Apparently some warehouse stock continued for a couple of years but post 1990 is pretty sound.

Sorry, I have done a lot of reading on this lately and currently trying to work out if our weird textured walls is just 1990s style heavy roller work, or artex :o

Some very light gardening today. I cut back a load of ivy at 9am this morning and revealed a fence panel I'd never seen before. Other than that I just fed the house plants and cut back a bramble. Too hot for anything else.

That does remind of a guy I used to work with, his Hirst house had woodchuck on the walls. Can't imagine how much of a ballache that was to remove.

Added a bee hotel to the garden.

Two bird boxes to go up when it’s cooler this week. I took them down when we had a bee hive in one - this time I’ll put them away from paths/the main garden area just in case.

Now it’s cooled down a bit I’ve put up two new bird boxes. I’ve left one open fronted (should encourage robins, song thrushes and the like) and one closed (probably blue ****). There are already some wrens that nest annually in one of the larger bushes and blue **** in the loft. Doing my bit :)

Mums toilet was leaking, there were two leaks in the end. One from the cistern inlet, the washer inside the cistern had degraded and was no longer sealing, but annoyingly the rubber washer in the isolation valve that fits onto the threaded inlet was also perished so had to fit a new one of those.

However I am at a loss as to how to tighten the isolation valve onto the inlet thread, there is no room for a spanner. I've done it up as tight as I can possibly get it with my fingers and by rotating the inlet valve inside the cistern to both snug up the plastic washer and the isolation valve.

So this was done Fri-Sun of weekend just gone.

Missus wanted the bedroom done - it's a new build so not much been done for this first year or so. Tried my hand at panelling and painted the other walls / built some new bedroom furniture up.

Still need to finish it off with some decor / pictures and bits (oh and might switch out the lampshades on the sidelamps now) but not bad first attempt!

Wasted a few hours going through filing cabinet - Will have a cuppa then waste an hour shredding it all.
Why do we keep junk paper going back a hundred years. (12 really)

This is on my list as well. I've not touched our filing, scanning or shredding heaps since long before covid and we've moved house in the meantime. When I do finally come to do it I think it will take an entire day.

Finally finished painting trailer surround fence - How things have changed - In old days I would have jet washed it -now i just ran a wire brush over easy bits i could see. If paint comes off so be it - I don't care anymore.
I have been poshing up houses since 1975 and I have lost any enthusiasm I had in those days.:(

Same here.

I've also got two house of the parent/inlaws and 50yrs+ of paperwork to clear out. Have to check nothing important goes out.

I've reduced my own paper mountain, as most stuff is electronic/online but more to do. Bought a scanner with document feeder to help.

My last man job was fixing some aligning some of the internal door lock plates so they close and lock property.
