What "man jobs" have you done today?

I don't envy you. Did my garden last year, every night for 3 weeks including take out fence posts and digging out concreted in deck supports - 3 skip loads. My knee ached for a month after and I don't get aches and pains!

Well I think I've nearly finished the easy part! Destroying stuff is simple brute force. I'm sure I'll sleep soundly tonight after shifting that lot but may ache a little in the morning!

Just needing to source a tonne of topsoil and tear up and mix in the existing ground in preparation for the new stuff.

It makes a nice change from sitting in front of a pc for work and and weekends for the football!

Spent a couple of hours last night just tidying ready the downstairs bathroom for first fix. I hadn't given too much attention to the floor by this point as I tend to like to let everything fall off the walls on to the floor then wrap the flooring up (if carpet/lino) and take it outside.

Anyhow, took the lino up and.... was left with this.

Yes, that is plasterboard on top of chipboard, I assume to remove the step down in to the bathroom from the hall. It's basically acted like a sponge (toilet had a small leak) and rotted the chipboard underneath. Joists are ok thankfully.

Replacing with 18mm ply and 6mm cement board tomorrow.

The previous owner has a history of bodging and this comes pretty close to the 'famous' (in my household) cardboard packers round the gas fireplace incident!

Got this load yesterday - 300kg

Just emptied it and now stacked for winter.

Getting to old for this game now.

Anyone living around Telford these go for 35 quid a ton - just turn up with a trailer.

Put another curtain rail up and finishing some shelving for the bathroom, used to use a block planer but been using a Surform block plane I found in my dads toolbox, where has this been!? It's bloody awesome for these types of jobs, makes rounding the corners and edges a lot easier than sandpaper or a regular plane.

Are you using a skip?

A spade may be better if so ?

:P

:D

Brute force and a helping hand from my dad to shift the stuff. No skip, just 8 trips to the recycling centre this morning in a car. Probably got three more trips to go with the rest of the grass.

Got to figure out how and where I'm going to get some topsoil delivered cos I'm in a corner plot so no direct access to the garden. It'll need to be left out and wheelbarrowed in.

I haz weeded front and back garden. Absolutely none of the little gits to be seen now. Took a while but looks lovely now. Cut grass as well. Fixed wobbly paving stone step in back garden which had been bugging me for ages. Really nice to potter about in the garden in the sun today - god, that's a sure sign you are getting old!

Coving put up around two chimney breasts in living room. Stops the air blowing through the gaps and also the large lumps of random plaster and masonry that is under the upstairs floor dropping down at odd times and scaring the Jebus out of me and Mrs S.

Just need to paint them and ceilings now.

Also cleared large pile of bramble cuttings from other week into compost bin

Put in my new handrail for the stairs over the weekend.

Started off looking like this, after I had previously pulled the old door frame out and cut the post down a bit.

Because the old newel post was cut to weird angles to accommodate the door frame, I decided to clad it and then put a nice topper on it.

Then after a day and a half, I ended up with this

I'm quite pleased with the overall results. There are one or two spindles which somehow ended up a bit wonky, but not really noticeable. I have a small piece of handrail left to fit to make it look good, but this won't be done until all the walls are stripped and redecorated.

Put up some garden plant wall baskets into brick with my new Makita :)
Put up the new loo roll holders
Put up a new mirror, got to love hollow wall fixings
Mowed the new grass

First weekend of DIY in my new house :)

Completed the removing of the existing turf. Was wet today but thankfully only had a small patch left to remove. Should be drying up tomorrow so get the turf taken to the recycling centre and start churning up the existing soil / sand and get some topsoil ordered. Probably looking at cutting my holiday week short thursday / friday so i can get a couple of days off next week for the delivery.

We have a really small room in our house that has been used to store boxes and general rubbish for the last 6 months so I decided to use this space as a room for my 7 year old as he currently shares a room with my daughter.

the room had a really deep cupboard but no room for a bed so I did this:

Need to finish the back of the cupboard off, lighting is going to be in a panel at the back where the gap is but I am pretty impressed with the result.
