What "man jobs" have you done today?

Redid the threshold and seems better until the new cover arrives (I stuck down 2 grabbers rather than a metal one, and I've got a screw down metal cover coming. Also (single handedly) relaid 5 of those big 3x2 concrete slabs. I mention single handedly as my arm aches amd I think I'm going to regret it tomorrow.

Hoiked this in to the boot with the aid of a passing stranger and my O/H at one end.

We collected a 2 column one approx 1m x 800 a year or so ago which, being much taller, allowed for a little purchase so I could squat down, tilt it to one side and hug/lift it on to the boot on my own.

But this one being three columns, so short and much wider was near on impossible. I'm not weak either but functional strength pls respond.

The builders can get it out tomorrow :p

MDF/wood to slide and then ratchet straps to secure it down for the journey home.

Had a go at plastering the utility/comms room area, first time doing any sort of plastering. Bought a kit from screwfix which was OK, but i've bought a new trowel now to hopefully make it a nicer finish for next time. Did struggle to get the lines out of it!!
Before & after, pics, there's going to be the dryer covering the lower left corner so i didn't pay any attention to getting that area flat! and the reason for having some cables coming out in the middle of the wall is because the leccies who rewired the house didn't leave enough slack on 2 ethernet runs..

Happy with the finish I got for my first time. Going to put a shelf at the top for tv/network distribution, so that'll get all of the cables out of the way. Then think i'll try a 3rd skim coat with the new trowel, that shelf up and no cables in the way..

Drove a friend up to help me start rewiring the new house. Cut some channels, made some mega dust. Glad we've not moved much actual stuff there yet, whole house will clearly be a mess soon!

You can see how effective the dust prevention was once we'd opened a few doors, lifted floorboards before chasing, etc...

Also the walls all seem to be made of awful Swiss cheese breeze block so I don't know what we'll be fixing the back boxes into.

Back at it next weekend, so if I'm lucky we can start moving in late October!

If the walls are that bad you can fix the backboxes in with a decent grip fix. Just ensure a little of the grip fix squeezes into the backbox holes and you've got all the levels spot on.

Good shout - friend wants to use fire rated expanding foam so I might pitch a combination. I don't fancy having wobbly faceplates after all this.

Yep, or similar. Thankfully asbestos free so I'll plan to either sand it back or reskim before long. It looks like the walls were done 1990s (ceilings are 60s Artex)

Yeah artex is bad but then I look at a load of absolutely awful modern designs and think the same..
Fair... I guess artex generation had kids with equally poor taste.
I've been told by more than one person that Artex comes back into fashion every few decades. The rollered wall thing was very 90s apparently. We're doomed :(

There's a local guy well into his 70's that at one time probably artexed half, if not more than that, of the area I live. Made an absolute fortune out of it.

Good news on being asbestos free, which I'm sure many do not realise it can be in artex.

I personally cannot see it ever coming back into fashion and hope if it does, it'll be long after I've dropped into the ground.
