What "man jobs" have you done today?

90s was painted textured wall paper (mostly woodchip based) and early to mid 90s did indeed have a trend of textured ceiling paints, or plaster but thankfully most not asbestos. My parents bathroom still has the weird ceiling and their landing has the textured wallpaper. They just repainted it. :S

Then there was the trend of feature walls and MDF tat furnishing courtesy of DIY programmes like changing rooms.

I’ll keep adding my lame little jobs into this thread shall I :D

We laid some cheap corrugated plastic sheeting (using carpet tacks) into our eaves storage. Thought it would be a good idea to get it cleaned and start filling the storage before the carpet goes down in the loft. Our dining room and bedrooms are just full of boxes since our building work started so it’ll be nice to get as much out of the way as possible.

Only problem is the sheeting is black and makes the eaves look like a black hole :D We have a light in there so it’s fine and will be fine to see stuff in there I think! Just looks odd when it’s empty.

I also rejigged some of the insulation as they’d run the Ethernet cables through in a way that was stretching them slightly across the corner of the eaves. Doesn’t seem to be much slack but I improved it slightly. Best get some piping round them (I forget the word) to help protect them. Don’t want the other half shoving suitcases against them and snagging them!

The Mrs loves her little things - personally I hate them. Her Dad had one wall covered in Egyptian things in cabinets and her mum had dolls, so for now she's been quite minimalist but we have some (like the stairs) mounted on little shelves.

Just wondered cos round my way there used to be a guy called Jerry, who was very much as you described, he artexed most of the local area and must be in his 70s or more now!

I guess many area's must have one of these guys.

He was in the right place during the right period and made a lot of money from it and I'm sure if he was young enough now, he'd be making a fortune removing it as well.

Spent some time turning this nest (bit exaggerated, most of the excess cable was coiled):

I could do more but quite frankly I don't want to see a crimp tool for a while.

I'm in two minds about mounting my firewall on the wall (the black box on the table). It has passive cooling and it essentially a heatsink so it's mega hot.
Further work, mrs wants to keep the table in there to put the pram on it, and I wanted some CCTV cameras, so I turned my Lack table into a Rack table.

And replaced my little firewall with a UniFi Dream Machine SE. Bit more work to do, I'm going to get a patch panel to sit underneath which will tidy it up more and maybe a tray for the Hive and Harmony hubs as they are just taped to the underside behind the UDM. I'll also need to remove all wall plugs and clean up the plasterboard ready for painting to tidy it all up.

No pics but I also tidied all the cables behind the TV unit.

Removed the worlds most badly fitted kitchen + some tall cabinets on another wall. O/H's house, builders needed it gone to make way for acro's for the steel which arrived earlier this week.

There's was a conservatory which has been demolished and in its place will be a single storey pitched roof extension. The kitchen is moving to the other side of the room and I will build in some tall display cabinets / drinks cabinet either side of a faux fireplace.

Elec and gas meters to be moved too.

So it looks like the cutting of the Yukka was a resounding success after all... It's come on leaps and bounds from being left with a stump with 4 branches:

To this about 3 months later:

Can I still call this 15 years old or is that a bit like Trigger's Broom? :o

The cuttings are doing great as well. I've now pulled off all the crappy lower leaves that were damaged to leave all the good foliage:

Took my little one to a party as I managed to bin my wife off for the weekend. Did a 4 mile cycle (lol 120 mile charity trip coming up) but still managed to get the front of the out building knocked out...

Any thoughts on how to extend/make that fence nicer? My kitchen window looks at it, and the neighbors house is a foot or so higher, so needs to be extended and pleasant to look at.

You can see the wood is currently bolted to a wall of some description...

I reckon just changing what's left of that trellis and giving it a new lick of paint would make a massive difference.
