What "man jobs" have you done today?

Also lifted some more boxing.

Hard to make head or tail of the pipework atm. I assume the galv was a pre-1970s heating retrofit with cost saving as a priority, hence visible. The copper was then a 1987 job from what I can tell. Unfortunately they left the galv despite doing a small utility extension, new kitchen and new bathroom.

Over the weekend: Ran 7x network and TV cables down to the garage and cut to length for their destinations. 1 per room and 2 for an access point and tablet for home control.

Took most of the tiles off in the kitchen so we can chase cables in. First wall literally peeled off in strips without tools. The other wall? Shattered every tile and ripped some plaster/render off. TBF my man job here was handing my girlfriend tools and hitting the first corner tile.

Removed one cabinet carcass so we can add a washing machine. Previous owners used a twin tub but no idea how they plumbed it in!

And found some goodies behind the cabs - A pack of Extra Strong Mints BBE 2002, as well as a Schwartz Sunday roast spice mix :D

My man job today was going into the loft and getting the crimbo wrapping paper down. The decorations are staying put for a little while longer yet though! Busy Sunday for me that lol.

Had to go full beast mode to get this awful stuff up. Screwed, glued and stapled to the floorboards. Whoever the labourer was that fitted it, they must have thought they were being paid by the staple.

My two isolating valves with lever on are coming tomorrow so been under the sink and turned mains valve off and on then opened the system drain valve to let water drain from pipes through a piece of permanent hose pipe on drain valve just going through the wall.
Checked the tube of Fenex sealer to see if it's soft and it is, so now all ready to go. Changing the outside tap isolator valve which has siezed in open possition.
Much less cussing when I do the job.
I used to like plumbing now I really hate it.

Isolating valves never arrived so in end got refund from Ebay then got two from Screwfix.

Installed myself under the sink - took everything off including waste pipes and couldn't get old isolating valve out due to tightness of pipe -just above a 90deg throught wall and 6" below the pipe went into a horizontal pipe - in the end it was cut pipes and put the two valves on (didn't have a straight compression connector) With these two valves on you have wiggle room to get pipe and olives on - Got them on and tightened them up -turned on water and a slight leak from top joint due to it being the top joint on old valve so the old olive and nut was used.
Next day cleaned up joint and put loads of Fenox around joint and tightened it up real tight -
So far 24hrs later still water tight .

I now loath and detest plumbing - my knees and neck still ache but at least I can turn off outside tap supply.

I just have this feeling we are in for a cold winter.

That is my main gripe for plumbing jobs, I'm 36 but I've been doing practical jobs since 16 and whenever I do plumbing it's majes my knees ache, and generally the job involves either seeing it or doing it, just not both at the same time :p.

Hmm, fencing jobs, seemingly basic in terms of skills just a little graft.. and yep the panel missing me and my young nephew forgot to put it in place, he couldn't lift it above the posts with me so will slide that later with extra help.

Thats why I have gone all plastic -they come one foot high and six foot long -5 to a 5ft fence etc. I do not have to paint them ever again.

These won't blow out in the next storm or rot - They are not supposed to go brittle but plastic is plastic -Providing they see me out I don't care.:)
