What "man jobs" have you done today?

Fixed a flickering ceiling spot in my kitchen (12V).

The cable had freyed, and must have been shorting on the metalwork of the fitting. A bit of electrical tape appears to have solved it. Will need to check the other fittings for any signs now too.
I had this on a place I moved into, in the end about 6 out of 10 spots had done it. Seemed they got hot and the plastic insulation had melted and exposed wires

All done now, barring sealing the edges and refitting the toilet.

And amazingly, it needed almost every last square inch from two of the three packs I bought. I thought wastage would just take me into the third pack. So a nice £50 rebate :) Doesn't usually work out that way :p
Nice job there mate.

We lived opposite someone who converted a back bedroom to a bathroom - So be aware of your lighting as everytime either of them went to loo we had a perfect back light view of them lifting up dress or getting his plonker out.
It was your bath that prompted me to mention it.:D

All sealed and toilet back in place. Small problem though, the seal around the pan connect is leaking :( no amount of jiggling it and trying to reseat it makes any difference. I guess I'll need to get a new connector.

Does fixing your own balls ups count?

Spent the last 3 hours cleaning up an utter cluster **** i caused by falling asleep with the bath running, turned the bath on and went into the bedroom with my little boy he was watching the ipad whilst the bath was filling

Next thing i knew my daughter woke me up coz all the lights had gone out, jumped off the bed into a sodding pool of water, the whole upstairs is wood floor (excl the tiled bathroom) so the water spread all thru my bedroom and the hallway, water dripping from light fixtures downstairs…. Utter disaster.

Used every towell and bed sheet available to soak as much water up as possible, Removed all the light fittings downstairs and replaced all the wagos etc for dry ones and got the power back on with a couple of fixtures that are prob beyond saving left off.

I think my daughter saved my bacon as could have been 100x worse as looks like it had only overflowed for a min or so but a tiny bit of water goes so far and causes so much damage.

Will cross my fingers, wait for the inevitable patches on the ceiling to appear and then repaint in a few weeks.

Fml

An update on this,

Has been a few days now all the lights have been refitted and this appears to be be the only lasting damage, caused by me pulling the spring retained downlight out thru wet plasterboard. As i didn't really Have a choice i think i got off relatively lightly!

Also appears to be the only water staining Altho im aware this can take a while to appear so wont be repainting anything yet.

Well, I've had the toilet apart again, cleaned all the connection points (not a pleasant job) dried it all, put some sealant on and put it all back together again.

Will try again tomorrow and if it still leaks, it's time for a plumber.

I'm having a pretty serious moisture problem in the outbuilding, and the huge amount of cardboard isn't helping. So I'm on a mission (12x83l boxes plus 5x 125l on order) to get rid of it all. First job was to reinforce the shelving tho:

^^^ absolutely nothing wrong with that cable tying. Extra long tangs in honour of an absolute heathen.

78806 from Screwfix is an incredibly tight fitting pan connector but still allows for a few degrees adjustment.

Yours looks to feed in to an elbow off to the right, replacing the pan connector would be my go to. You've already dealt with most of the nasty stuff, so while your sleeves are still rolled up...

Absolutely sure it's not leaking out where the cistern joins the bottom of the toilet?

Pretty sure it's the pan connector. The rubber seal looks misshapen and there was ahh, 'stuff' around the porcelain pipe on the toilet where they join. If it still leaks tomorrow, I'll buy a new pan connector.

Much better !

Used a core drill bit to take out a big 114mm hole for a dryer vent.

Annoyingly a wooden gate frame had been secured to the outside wall exactly where I wanted to drill through, so had to gauge an angle and hope for the best that I'd come out in the right spot to clear the post. Seemed to work out just right though!

Also spent an entire 5ah battering getting 75% of the way through, so had to wait ages to get a full recharge to finish.
