What "man jobs" have you done today?

Can't be as bad as sanding the bloody shed!

When you say key it - just a glance with some 80 grit?

Any suggestions on primer?

Nobody thinking I should nitromors and go back to wood?

I believe yes a fair scrape with 80grit or similar sandpaper. I'd wait to see if Google or anyone else says different.

Primer id use dulux difficult surface primer

Personally for my staircase Im going to break out all the spindles and put these in its place. Your spindles look nicer though so I'd probably keep them.

I did my door frames that had been stained and varnished with a varnish and paint remover it was not nitromorse but some other one can't remember took 2 coats and just scrapped off easy then wipe down undercoat and top coat of paint

Your spindles and posts look all square, electric sander all the way.

Another option for primer is to use something like B.I.N.

You could try stripping it in a test location to see how it comes off. You’ll get a better finish that way. Again square posts make it so much easier.

Remember my dad doing our stairs when I was younger. He's a painter and decorator by trade but you could tell he loathed doing it, especially after a full days graft elsewhere.
Seem to remember him taking a blow torch to our stairs to get the paint off in the end because the amount of gloss that had gone on over the years was too much.

We've got square spindles (it that makes sense) which could do with a refresh in our house. The previous owners painted the banister black and the spindles white in what looks like normal emulsion so shouldn't be too tricky of a job to bring to life. Hoping it sands back quite easily.

Presumably you want the water to dry quickly after a shower and for it to be warm when you walk on it?
I've got wet UFH in my bathroom and unless you plan on leaving it on all day after you've been in the shower don't count on it drying off quickly.
Just turn the shower on before you get in it and it'll be warm ;)

Yeah when my dad died at 18 I tried to make my mums house "maintenance free". I stripped at least 40 years of gloss off of every skirting board in that house using a heat gun... then about a year later she said she hated plain wood and got my brother to paint it.

Definitely minus five years off of my life expectancy due to the lead paint fumes lol.

That's exactly what we ended up doing. Round spindles with what felt like several hundred layers on paint that stripper was not shifting.

After a week of attempting to strip the paint, a new set was ordered and out came the saw. It was a good excuse to go for an oak hand rail :D
