What "man jobs" have you done today?

I shall, today, mostly be mixing concrete and laying more path.. in a heatwave... I will also be using the sun to quickly apply tanking slurry to the back of more slabs.

Thankfully I still have the concrete mixer.

Mixed concrete and laid slabs this morning, then it got too humid, so I switched to making my UV clarified for the pond. I don't have all the parts so it's currently sat on the side.

80W or UV.. at 10,000 litres/hour minimum rate.

Ordered some Zinnser BIN to prime over all of the dark varnished wood in the house (skirting, picture rails etc).

Is a water based gloss the suggested top coat?

We used satin in our last house as gloss tends to go yellow but I understand that water based gloss doesn’t have this issue.

Also, is there any advice when to use satin instead of gloss?

We have the skirting, architraves, stairs, handrail posts, spindles, under-stairs cupboard, window ledges and wood around the bay windows to paint. We’re leaving the newel caps and handrail as wood.

Is it best to paint the skirting, architraves and picture rails gloss and then use satin on the rest? (I think gloss would be too much on the under-stair cupboard and the wood that’s around the windows)

House is going up for sale. Got back from Spain last Monday and every spare minute seems to be spent doing DIY.

List so far

Paint outside windowsills
Replace some pointing in walls
Replace pointing in ridge tiles
Clear out gutters
Filled/fixed various movement based cracks
Paint the front porch

Spent this weekend painting the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. Annoyingly my wifes son moved back in in September and vaped a lot in his room which you don't notice until you realise how filthy the walls had got. White paint didn't touch it so it's now a light grey!
Luckily we seem to have had just the right levels of paint left so only had to buy the grey one coat for the bedroom. We used some leftover paint from our room for the bathroom which was just a slight off white.

Still to do
Pressure washing - This was the plan for this weekend, but Friday night i came to use it and it was ****ing water out the bottom. I don't have the time/inclination to fix now, so have stuck it on facebook as spares and will hire one for next weekend. Was going to buy a cordless one as Stanley had a battery deal on. But don't think that'd touch the algae. Would be handy keeping on top of bird poo though, but i think i'd rather a cheaper one. Although i do fancy the Dewalt! Would be handy for beach days in Spain (not specifically the Dewalt!)
Repoint bits of the patio
Paint shed
Paint fence
Clean skylights
Caulk around doorframes/windows
Fix bathroom windowsill - It was MDF and has absorbed water and swelled/cracked. Luckily it's around tiles, so should be ok to cut it out and replace it as is without decorating. MDF Window board was £32 for 6ft. I only need 2ft but didn't have any other option :(

Photographer is coming next Monday (19th), so pressure on!
