What "man jobs" have you done today?

Fixed my air bottle compressor, it had started "popping" like a gun going off above 75 Bar. The Bauer agent wanted hundreds just to dismantle it and assess. I managed to isolate the issue v to the third stage cylinder valving not holding pressure, removed the head and then removed the inlet and outlet valves, only to find them carboned up. Soaking in caustic soda didn't fix them, and after a load of Googling I found the part numbers had been updated and they were not, as the agent claimed, obsolete.

£118 including reclaimable VAT and postage saw it fixed, (plus some labour and time, but i am now a pseudo expert on Bauer high pressure compressors ;)), and the most useful machine I have lives again. An equivalent new one is near £4000. I can fill diving bottles to run air tools remote from an air line, blow up tyres and start engines with air starters again. having compressed air in carry-able bottles is just SO useful. Plus i can charge people to blow up their bottles for air guns... 207 bar in the small bottle in the photo, a full size one in the truck lasts for months given modest usage.

Couldn't justify starting a new thread - but we had our ridge tiles re-bedded and repointed last year. After a couple of heavy storms, some chunks of the secondary pointing mortar has flaked away. Is this normal or should I ask the chap to come back and take a look at it?

Sounds like the roofer I had in to remove roof tiles and re-lay them - after they had done a runner a neighbour asked if they were meant to remove tiles or just point them.
The mortor on mine is flaking off.

Just finished smashing through a dropped ceiling, from 9ft 2in to 8ft and into the 9ft 2in ceiling after water was found to be dripping from a GU10 downlight.

Now smothered in plaster and plasterboard and have set up my finest slate plate to divert the water into a large bucket.

Will get into it more in the morning :(

It was hot today, raked the leaves on the front lawn, going to be a recurring job. Cut some timber blanks to raise the display pots in the corner cupboard for she who must be obeyed. Cut both lawns when they had dried after last night's rain. Cycled into town for some supplies and back home for a kip.

Spent the last few days turning this (forgot to take before photo so pinched this from rightmove)

Next job, take up all the floorboards, mainly because they creak so badly, but also to allow plumber access to move pipework.
I initially assumed the top photo was the end result, not something you tore apart :)

What was up with the original, looked fine to me. But bathrooms to me are just places to show how much money I've just wasted on beer ;)

I don't think I can actually explain if you can't see just from looking at the photo :p

/sarcasm off
Its a 23 year old bathroom, so its fairly worn out + the style is awful
it used to house a cylinder tank in a cupboard which is now empty, so that has gone to make more space for extra bathroom furniture
the floor creaks horrendously
the floor tiles are all loose (laid directly to plywood)
there is no shower
the taps on the sink don't work properly
it smells funny sometimes, kind of like a fusty wood smell.
the lighting is crap.

will be fitting
a shower with bench + rainfall shower head
sink with vanity
additional storage cupboards
decent (strong) bath
underfloor heating
toilet with concealed cistern
better lighting
backlit mirror (or sidelit)

Fitted the gutter / water butt kit to the greenhouse

Removed the token gutter ends which came with the greenhouse

IMG20230614174756-01.jpg

Fitted (pushed in) the more substantial ones from the kit to the door end

IMG20230614174840-01.jpg

Fitted the end / downpipe connector to the "back" end

IMG20230614175924-01.jpg

Drilled a hole in the closest side of the water butt

IMG20230614180540-01.jpg

IMG20230614180534-01.jpg

Cut a short length of downpipe, out fitted to the gutter end and push fitted the water butt hose in the other

IMG20230614181100-01.jpg

Screwed the fitting into the hole in the water butt, connected the pipe and clipped into place

The other side is also done awaiting another water butt or second connector pipe into this one

Looks pretty dated the original imo. The tiles are horrendous and not sure I could stomach that off white bath panel :p

Have you put yourself a tap on bottom or is it already there ? I have also put overflow pipes on mine - There is a big hole behind my fence in field as the overflow is boring it's way into the ground.
I have also put a male hose fitting on top of butt so if you run it dry you can fill it up with no problem.
Gutters on our greenhouse are rubbish - we been here 13 yrs and it was already here. Bodged them a bit here and there.
Still filled butts with those heavy rains we had the other night.

Yeah it's got a tap on. The butt was.hwre when we moved in about 6 years ago, I moved it when I built the log store

Good shout on the overflow - the hedge behind the greenhouse goes into a substantial verge then down into a small road with gulleys and manholes so ideal really :)

Going to get another for the other side and a lager one (or two) to go on the gazebo
