What "man jobs" have you done today?

Changed the oil in the car as well as the air filter... That's it serviced for another while.

Planted the dwarf Apple and Pear trees that arrived a couple of days ago into proper pots.

Cleaned the shed out - I'm glad I kept the Henry hoover once I got a Shark. The little Henry is great for outdoor cleaning. It'll take anything it can fit up its pipe without complaint (oo-er )... I'd reckon more "complex" vacuum cleaners couldn't handle the same.

Put up this pool which was a middle of Lidl special for the kids (and me). This was not on the job list for my day off but definitely got me some dad points.

The hose has been in since about 3 this afternoon and its currently about half filled. Got an alarm set to turn it off before I go to bed and will finish it off tomorrow. Thermometer is reading a barmy 19c!

Reminds me when I filled the koi pond .. 14,000 litres - that took a couple of days filling 'off peak'.

Trimmed the hedges in the back garden, spent around 2 hours digging up all of the Lesser Trefoil, this stuff spreads like wildfire, before giving the garden a light cut.

Finish off the hedges on the sides tomorrow before hopefully smashing the front on Sunday.

I'm looking at upgrading the locks on my French doors. I can do one easy enough but the the other has a plate on (possibly called a striker plate). To remove it is it just a case of removing the pairing screws from my photo? The plate is the full length, but I assume all the single screws are just for adjustment.

Took the recycling in.

Yes, that's right, I'd previously taken it out last nite for collection, but it turns out that the recycling people are on strike.

So I brought it in again and it felt weird.
All their pay deals expired 31st March and they all want massive pay rises coz inflation. 10-15% negotiations not unusual, unions involved who are a pain in the arse.

Every so often a chicken would escape and it was starting to do my head in how - then I saw one of the new ones hopping from the compost bin, on to the roof of the coop, walking over and jumping into the garden ...

So threaded some bamboo canes through some mesh

IMG20230617133519-01.jpg

Then tie wrapped them to the frame / mesh of the coop to form a "wall" which hopefully (fingers crossed) will keep them contained

Whilst doing this I also noticed some of the elasticated toggles which hold the tarp on the roof had rotted and snapped so replaced them all with tie wraps too

Whilst I was at it I trimmed the tree branches back off the roof off the coop

Also had some branches from another tree encroaching into the gutter and on to the roof / skylights in the kitchen
