Yesterday I chopped a huge pile of wood using a chop saw. Not sure reporting activities from the day before breaches the topic's rules.
Well, he was supposed to turn up today, we messaged at 8am today to arrange delivery of something later this week, I'm guessing this means he won't start until later this week? I say guessing because he hasn't turned up nor has he messaged to say when he will or won't. Comms have been slow in the past so it's not out of the norm but I was expecting him to be here today...Not very manly of me but I've got someone coming over to finish off some work I started hopefully he does a semi-reasonable job, 'good' is probably too much to ask for these days isn't it?
Man jobs i have done today
I picked up my debit card and ordered some Kandla grey sandstone slabs (900x600) and a jumbo bag of MOT type 1 and Sharp sand. £515 for all delivered
Booked 2 days off MOnday and Tuesday to continue with the work
Where did you order your slabs from?

I need x5 kandla grey 900x600 to redo a small path between our driveway and front door, but am struggling to find somewhere fairly local than can deliver the above small quantity for a reasonable price.
Local place by me in Cardiff - Called "Brickability"
The quality of the slabs are really good and its a good professional quality place, lots of stock, they have a display area out the front (which can be seen on their website home page)
if you need a catalogue they have some there
Brickability | Brick Supplier & Stockist
Brickability is a market leading brick supplier that meets customer needs through both supply-to-order and our retail and trade depots.brickabilitycardiff.co.uk
if you give them a call they may deliver to bristol,
I have had to pay £80 for delivery, their place is about 15 min drive from my house on the other side of cardiff, they are not far from Cardiff Bay area
The 900x 600 Kandla grey sandstone slabs i have gone for cost £14.99 ext vat and delivery
For 17 slabs i paid £401 which includes VAT and includes delivery.
They sell the slabs individually aswel so you dont have to buy a pack or full crate.
Do you own an estate car or 4x4 or a car with a larger boot size that seats can go down ? you maybe able to get 5 in the back of your car? Save yourself some delivery but you would have to drive over the bridge to Cardiff.
Thats from the display area, really not the best pics as it was my phone
Anyway, I was bored with my 3yo yesterday so we started stripping. I wanted to get the lawn done so was in and out on jobs. Ended up smashing the fireplace out. Managed to swing by 2 tips and get rid of 30 buckets of rubble (3 bucket rule around here) so quite pleased!
Had my 3yo man the vac whilst I removed the vertical rad (y)
Thanks for this info, that's very helpful. We can certainly drive over there, were in North Bristol and can be on the M4 in 5 mins.
I will make enquiries with them directly, but seeing as you've just bought some slabs from them, please can you confirm if the kandla grey 900x600 slabs you have bought are of uniform thickness and what the approximate thickness is?
I did a patio 2 years ago in kandla grey and they were "calibrated" to be uniform thickness of about 22mm.
I have a few left over and want to top them up with similar slabs for the path at the front of the house.
Thanks
Cool. Im surprised you couldn't find anything local in Bristol that is a similar type of independent..
Mine are being delivered on Thursday. But according to the catalogue. For single size version it said each flag is 24mm thick
I didn't see the job lot when I went there I just seen the display areas.
The quality of them looked really good much better than places like wicks, bnq or local building merchants. Obviously this is what they specialise in so the quality is good.
Thanks for that info, our slabs may well be 24mm, but in any case 2mm won't matter once they're bedded down.
Yes I've been struggling to find somewhere in Bristol that supplies single slabs, and was quoted £90 delivery from another supplier which I'm loathe to pay for £100 worth of goods.
Thanks again.
I let my 6 year old loose with a ckaw hammer to break up a pallet (even got him to put some gogs on). He loved it, he couldn't get the hang of squaring up the nails to knock them out, but he enjoined pulling them out and braying (northern slang for hitting something) the **** out of the wood . To the guy above, I'd be wary about 6 slabs in your boot, that's going to be quite a bit of weight, not sure if its too much. That's the way. Start them young. I'm lucky if I can convince mine to do any form of Dad jobs.
"Hold this."
"Can you see it coming through?".
"Pull that".
"OK lift".
"Bit more".
"**** sake".
The language of Dad jobs.
lol! Reminds me, I did 6 council slabs in my wifes Seat Ibiza. The next day I went to use the car and the reversing camera was DISTINCTLY pointing in a different orientation lol. Kept my mouth shutI'd be wary about 6 slabs in your boot, that's going to be quite a bit of weight, not sure if its too much.
Glad this was a one man job, however big it wasHad a massive poo, more of a man jobbie really. Also got to change the fork oil on my street triple but ive not motivated enough yet.
