What "man jobs" have you done today?

If its integral with the boiler then possibly, otherwise no. A boiler service is just that and these days they do the minimum.

I only have a boiler service if needed to keep an extended boiler warranty as I do the inhibitor, expansion vessel(s) pressure, magnetic filter etc myself.
Fair enough. I think I might start doing the same.

Do you just add inhibitor to the system each year regardless or do you test the levels first?

We've had the loft converted recently, so now it needs some furniture and this lot arrived last week, getting it up two flights of stairs was not fun, 2 hours later and it's all up there (a task hastened by an unforecast downpour!) . Now the fun starts since I have to put it all together.

2 car loads (320Kg+) of stabs to the local recycle centre.. total cost £36.. better than the £200+ for a hippo bag/skip..

That's cheaper than our local recycling centre which is max 20Kg (plus bag size limit) for £3.

Thankfully we have a couple of local companies that do 1 tonne grab bags for £66 total price so that works well for larger amounts. I don't know how hippo stay in business with their costs as all our local waste companies are vastly cheaper and these are companies which dozens of vehicles.

Unseasonably warm so decided to get outside and do a few chores ....

Gave the grass (another) last cut of the season: front

And back

Moved a bottle opener from one of the logs stores (was temporary for a BBQ) to the gazebo

Got all the tools out to install a new washing line pole after the telegraph pole one end was tied to was removed in the week ....

Only for SHMBO.to decide she didn't like it and could we tie it between two of the tree

I, obviously, decided against reminding her I suggested this before buying the new washing pole and it was over ruled .....

Then I was asked to "WD40 or whatever" the squeaky utility room cupboard door - no need, just needed the hinges adjusting as the squeaking was the door catching on the cupboard carcass

Having a nice brew, outside in the sun now before I decide (or am told) what next .... :D

We finally got the electrician round last week to run cabling into the porch wall for our Reolink doorbell. Girlfriend is on an absolute cleaning blitz so I’ve been keeping myself busy filling it yesterday, sanding down this morning, and just done one coat. All new to me, even filled some plaster cracks in the house which look decent now. I think she knows I’m just finding anything to do apart from the cleaning :p

I swapped a knackered single gang socket for a new one with usb. I don't normally bother with usb built into the socket but it will be handy in this location to plug alexa and some decorative lights in and keep the clutter down.

I thought it would be a 20 minute job but it took an hour. It had 4 connections going into the back of it which I was not expecting. One of the connections was to an unused fused spur which I removed and blanked off, but even then it was still incredibly awkward because the terminal blocks are in the corner where one of the cables comes in.

50 for a car load but guy looked at it and went - that's not a car load (320Kg.. the car sits like it is lol). Then the second 320Kg the same.. just without the allowance.

Just picked up a block plane from B&Q.. then spent an hour 600 grit and 1200 grit flattening the sole and then squaring up the sides. Seems to work quite well now :D

Just got back from 3 days in India so did nothing at all. It was splendid. Hoping I can do final first fix deep fill plaster/skim tomorrow....but first I need to go to the tip.

Also, might mow the lawn for the final mow of the year (again). The weed and feed has killed a lot of stuff off but still very jank.

No pics but mixed up about 15 bags of ballast and cement by hand yo extend the base of our old shed in prep for a new shed to go in tomorrow.

Managed to guess pretty much bang on the right amount of supplies which makes a nice change.

Happy with it overall. Still not quite level but a million times better than it was. Hopefully it's cured nicely by tomorrow.

Your body must hate you :D

I made the window sills for my bay window, just need to get them painted… will post photos tomorrow :D

Tip done - garage clearest it's been since I moved in, but my god is it still full to bursting of tat. Looking forwards to moving all the junk to the attic once I finish the bedroom lighting rewire.

Just managed to get the first skim on the deep fill stuff. I hate plastering. Pleased with the corner I managed on the fireplace although still not perfect.

Soo new house, getting a new sofa so thought I'd get a fresh lick of paint on the walls before it arrives...

Hand sand it back and put a light amount of paint on it...

Cue air bubble.. bubble gets bigger and bigger. Eventually a large piece of paint many layers thick slops off.

So I've had to strip the wall down to the layer of ******* gloss paint a previous owner had painted the wall in. Then had to sand that back with the power sander...

1 hour job turned into a 8 hour shitfest...

Stop moaning - This is the utter joy of owning a second hand house - wait till the next problem pops up and you say I wish this was as easy as painting walls. And so it goes on job after job.
You then start to think who the hell was the nutcase who owned this house before me -then you start thinking was he as good at his work job or did he get promoted for being crap. (had those at work)

Anyone remember the father ted episode where he damages the bosses car and keeps fettling the dent until he ends up with a cube of iron?

Yeah...that's where I am. I keep tapping around the walls to see if I discover any unbonded plaster. I am now left with dealing with this:

I hadn't realised to attach the cills, they bricked in - tongue and grove fashion - a block of wood. So as I was trying to lift the right hand side cill as it was a good 10mm out of plumb, more came off. Ce'st la vie.

Off to India tomorrow for a few days, so hoping I can at least slap some amount of muck on the walls so it is nice and dry when I get back on Saturday!

I think I might take a break from decorating/plastering monotony and start the floor in the other room....................

I can't remember if you have solid external walls or not in your house?

For solid external walls, gypsum plaster is a baaaaaaad idea.

They are solid --- but none of the walls pictured are external. I have "risked" a minimal amount on an external wall, but just a fraction to fill the chase.
