What "man jobs" have you done today?

One and a half kilos of narcissi bulbs going in today. Big yellow trumpets for spring.
very nice any other flowering bulbs in for the spring? I was going to dump a load of tulips and crocuses in in the next month or so.

The timber upstand needs fixing permanently before I cement filler the two sides and the top / "ridge"

The incinerator barrel will be shifted forward and downpipe fitted / angle piece to divert water to the gulley until I get another water butt

Some crocus and tulips in already but I expect there will be more. :) It's nice to see some colour in the garden come April.

I still have some scotch bonnets ripening in the greenhouse but these will be the last this year. I have a dozen frozen for winter dishes. I'll take cuttings for potting on.

Hi all,

so me and my dad in mid -late sept layed the 9m2 Kandla grey sandstone patio in the garden, only just got round to pointing it. which is done,

Question I need to ask is, is there an easy way to remove some stain residue on kandla grey slabs left over from concrete sand (sharp sand)/concrete mix? easily?

when the slabs were laid i had to after it had all dried pressure wash directly on the slabs quite aggressively (avoiding the gaps) as there had been some staining from mix that had got on to the slabs itself, its really hard to get off, its like a brownish colour, you cant get it off with a bucket of water and a sponge, you cant get it off with a hard brush

I think i had to pressure wash with a thick brush on the first lay process.

Although after pointing we couldn't avoid getting a little on the slabs which i need to get off

I can try and pressure wash it, but is there a cleaner solution that will easily lift the light sharp sand /cement staining on the slabs allowing me to use a normal hose to then rinse off?

Unfortunately because its been a tiny bit damp during the time we were pointing it was hard to not get stain running on the

@DJMK4 The brown stains are probably rust. Whole patios can turn brown if you are unlucky with the batch of slabs. Try something like Lithofin Rust-EX or Rob Parker’s Best Rust Remover. Both of those brands have products to deal with mortar stains once you scrape the thick off. Aggressive pressure washing isnt good for sandstones. You can "scar" the surface

Reset the gutter as it was slightly down in the middle and now flowing freely then added the downpipe

Will get another angle to "kick" towards the gulley

The area is on a slope and graded towards the gulley anyway so should be ok so long as.pointing in the general direction

Pots and incinerator back in place you can hardly see it

Hi

No the brown stains are from the sand cement mix a little it's deffo not rust

Light pressure washer will not get it off, I have tried a brush ,. I dont want to have to look at acidic stuff but I may have to.

All in all the patio looks really good it's just there are some stain marks which do stand out

QQ regarding a boiler 'service'. Would you expect the plumber to check the pressure of the expansion vessel (if your system has one of course) as part of your annual check?

Our system has been leaking water outside but I didn't think to check the pressure of the expansion vessel because we had a boiler service in the past few months. Because of that I thought it was a dodgy PRV. Our plumber came over, pumped it up with a track pump and charged me £100 for the privilege.

I know I should have checked it myself before calling, but at the same time I feel a bit hard done by.

If its integral with the boiler then possibly, otherwise no. A boiler service is just that and these days they do the minimum.

I only have a boiler service if needed to keep an extended boiler warranty as I do the inhibitor, expansion vessel(s) pressure, magnetic filter etc myself.
