What "man jobs" have you done today?

Had bad man flu last weekend. Saturday was pram shopping, so got to do some stuff today.

Boarding and door lining:

The baby is due end of April and this will be the nursery. I have left to do:

- chase 2 sockets
- fit window sill
- electrician to wire the sockets
- plasterer to skim room
- hang door
- screw down floorboards
- coving
- decorating
- flooring (6mm ply + amtico)
- skirting boards + architrave

Using tradesmen for electrics, plastering and flooring. I think I’ll just be done in time as long as I don’t need to wait ages for any of the tradesmen.
A bit late, but I hope you filled that stud wall with acoustic insulation!

Our bedroom fully stripped back to the plaster, carpet and underlay up.
Removed/disconnected lots of old electric cables (found some hidden in the coving lol).
Plasterer here tonight and tomorrow to get ceiling and all walls done :-)

Tiles held together! They feel /look pretty good tbh I'm not going to grout them until the end when I've done walls.

Set up timbers for first walls and setting out. Was a bit difficult balance to get an ok height for worktop, niches and tall ceiling

Which laser leveller are you using

Ripped the bathroom out, pulled down lathe and plaster sloped ceiling to insulate.

Discovered the tiles were dabbed on plasterboard, which in turn was dabbed on lathe and plaster covered in flaking paint. Pulled the entire wall off in one piece with zero effort. Many other bodges to rectify. Not sure what train of thought went into the window.

I've repaired our rain deflector on our upvc door. It had started to split but superglue seems to have done a good job.

Is there a way to get it to stay in one place? Currently it's only resting on screws along the bottom of the door, so there's nothing to stop it travelling laterally.

There are no end caps so I'm thinking the best thing is silicon along the top?

Does anyone know if you can get a C channel plasterboard system like this in the UK? I've got a 6x4m ceiling to level and this would save a lot of faffing with spacers:

I can find C channel but not any with the locking clips that allow different amounts of drop. Rondo seems to be australia only.

Bedroom floor ripped up, laid insulation between all joists tonight (mainly as soundproofing, from the kitchen and snooker room below) - new floor going in tomorrow.
Aching muscles already, so not looking forward to it tbh.

Replaced the non functional stop tap and removed 2m of internal lead pipe that I found during the bathroom rip out.

Will eventually get the lead water main changed to MDPE, but current priority was a functioning stop tap and sorting out the mess of plumbing.

Not a job I wanted to do myself, but a plumber wanted £350, it took an hour and £22 of parts.

I'm sure he was pricing in the risk of it unexpectedly being a very difficult job etc., but trades are really pricing themselves to encourage more and more people to just do it themselves. I'm glad I know some stuff as I must have saved myself tens of thousands in avoided labour costs over the years.

There are some things I won't do myself, like structural building and going on the roof, but on the whole, it's doable and often to a higher standard.

Had to do this when the lead infeed pipe started leaking in the hall. Then again when it leaked under the brick work then again when it leaked outside. Trouble was it was a shared supply, so 2 houses from 1 pipe and water meter. The neighbours had the water meter so got a reduction while we were still connected. Went with a new supply and water meter, dug the trench to the house and got all the fittings, then Anglian Water connected us. Still have the lead pipe in the garden and it's still joined to next doors supply. My job today was draining the old cold water feeds in the airing cupboard. Stop **** was completely seized so had to undo the joint to drain it that way. Now to remove the pipes that were disconnected 6yrs ago.
