What "man jobs" have you done today?

I'd happily lend tools to people to help cut back a tree. We have one in the corner of our garden but it overhangs into 2 other gardens (think T shaped fences). Neither neighbour has thrown clippings back or mentioned anything.
Unrelated to that, we have a cold water tank in the loft and with the recent winds I hear a drip every so often. I can't see any leaks, but I assume it's quite common with wind creating a bit of a pressure differential down the overflow pipe?

The digging out is now complete we have taken 400mm from the entire downstairs. This weekend is hardcore and prep for concrete.

Floor slab was smashed to bits with settlement cracks and voids everywhere, no DPC so damp all over it too. This was to allow for proper base, DPC, insulation and new slab to be poured. I keep telling them to do under floor heating but so far it fallen on deaf ears

went round the external upvc and cleaned out the lichen/moss that was developing at base where window pane seals - toothbrush & car shampoo.

also - first ever time I've used something from The Sun
so upper bedroom windows easier to do with that trick, from inside; up a ladder with a big bucket of water wouldn't be fun

nonetheless need to find a good solution for stabilizing a ladder in front garden

I replaced a fence panel which got obliterated by the storm earlier in the week.

I've had a spare floating around, getting in the way for the past two years. I knew I didn't get rid of it for a reason, once again lazyness wins

It's the wrong type (close board instead of overlap) and too short, but I made it work and we're hopefully going to get the whole lot replaced this year

Put a bit more insulation down under the boiler where the floor is a little lower. I put 100mm in originally but figured I could double that and still leave a healthy gap for ventilation. There's still more to be done in the loft...slowly getting there

I need to get a new extractor fan for the bathroom sorted. It needs to be in-line in the loft space and then vent out to the gable wall. I gather smooth ducting is the way to go?
For what it's worth, the flexible ducting is SO much easier to install and work with. It's also basically smooth on the inside once stretched out during installation anyway, so I would say don't bother with smooth as the actual difference in airflow is negligible.

First couple tiles I forgot to back butter and to be honest it's not perfectly flat /level but if you squint it's mint!

Just hoping that no tiles lift as I knock the clips off as I'm worried there's a couple voids. Should have used more adhesive throughout it to be honest.

6pm darkness angle grinding is OK right?

Does anyone know if wood or mdf architrave better in a bathroom. I need a very short (~44mm profile that will go right up againsst the shower screen and I can only really find a couple in Travis perkins

yes I've some dillapidated fencing, needs some wood treatment ... but some greeness/mold at the moment so was contemplating light bleach misting first, with garden sprayer

Spent some quality time with my son, getting him off his tablet to teach him about impact drivers and torx bits to build a table for a pizza oven.

He really enjoyed helping and learning and actually got quite good at putting the screws in using the impact driver. Valuable life lessons!

Cleaned out the chickens
Out up a new washing line
Drive to pick up (then dismantle) some greenhouse staging - put it in the greenhouse to reconstruct when it's not so dark...

Had bad man flu last weekend. Saturday was pram shopping, so got to do some stuff today.

Boarding and door lining:

The baby is due end of April and this will be the nursery. I have left to do:

- chase 2 sockets
- fit window sill
- electrician to wire the sockets
- plasterer to skim room
- hang door
- screw down floorboards
- coving
- decorating
- flooring (6mm ply + amtico)
- skirting boards + architrave

Using tradesmen for electrics, plastering and flooring. I think I’ll just be done in time as long as I don’t need to wait ages for any of the tradesmen.

Tiles held together! They feel /look pretty good tbh I'm not going to grout them until the end when I've done walls.

Set up timbers for first walls and setting out. Was a bit difficult balance to get an ok height for worktop, niches and tall ceiling
