What "man jobs" have you done today?

Absolutely no idea. But then the previous owner seems to have been a proper bodge it merchant :p

I'm still correcting bodge jobs after four years of living here.
Doesn't have to be just the diy'er to end up with bodges. Had an extension done by a relative of someone I worked with. They always seemed to be busy as I saw his van around a lot.
Anyway the some of the problems with the work
100 paslode nails in 3 uprights and 4 horizontals to box in a soil pipe indoors, he did this twice.
Placed a stud wall in the bathroom to enclose the shower tray, was told to wait a bit because we hadn't got the size of the tray finalised, wall in and plasterboarded when it came to the shower tray to be fitted the plumbers had to chop the plasterboard away at both ends to get it in.
Dot and dabbed in the kitchen but had to put a strip across the top of a full sheet when we went to paint the walls we noticed a 12mm dip on the joint so we had to fill that it before painting.
They also didn't fit the floor insulation properly up to the wall and left 2 voids under the floor aswell.
That's why I try and do as much as I can myself.

Found out what was wrong with the pump on our hot tub, just a peasant inflatable one. The flow sensor and the little flap weren't registering any flow. Removing the flap (which has a tiny magnet on) from the housing and taping it to the sensor after switching on the unit fooled the system into thinking there was flow, and the pump ran fine.

I've ordered another sensor for £6.50 and have left the little magnet flap stuck to a big magnet to remagnetise, hopefully this will get it working properly again.

Good result, my heat pump came up with a flow sensor error, could be dirt in the system(fairly clean), could be flow sensor(bought a new one at £120, same error), could be mainboard(replaced it, £300 +fitting got it working) the engineer reckons its a relay which I would say would cost £5. Needless to say I've kept the old one to check that out and see if it's repairable.

Finished destroying the bathroom removing the old shower and started insulating walls.

Lost most of the day to in-laws - I had intended to go and tickle the allotment but I have lost the key to the shed so can't get the strimmer. Another day!

Ended up clearing a good chunk of the bottom garden instead. I think I will get a skip of some description; kill the shed, then spend the energy using the dugga dugga on the concrete pad remnants that are spoilt or in the way. And then with anything remaining in my soul move these final annoying bits of ivy bush/rubble piles. Probably won't need a full skip but not sure a mini will be big enough....

The plan is then to assess a concrete pad job - I hadn't realised they can pump it so far. Or stick to the rod method as per Oakwood garden rooms. I'm running out of steam in my grand old age tho....so maybe a pad is an easy buy.

Ticked a few things off today:
- Outside Temperature sensor replaced on the car
- tomato seedlings repotted
- grass cut for first time this year

Got on with some painting and replaced the dangling light with something not covered in dust and paint.

Pretty goid cutting in, did you tape it? Or freehand?

I have a similar light in my utility room and altho I like it says " max 5watts" and really isn't bright enough.

All grouted my bathroom. On the previous issue of colours mismatching I think that was mainly a trick of light/shadow so overall haven't changed any of the previous bits.

What do we think for these silicone ideas

Floor tiles - to wall - colour match silicone to the grout

Shower - colour match silicone (or white?)

Door frame - colour match silicone

That light looks quite far from the centre of the room - is that true?

Our place has all the lights about a third of the way from the window to the wall, in every room. Not sure why they've done that but they are run in one open line between joists, so perhaps just done for convenience?

Its fairly usual and used to be done for "modesty" so that your body doesn't cast a shadow on the outside curtain at night.

Overboarded half of the ceiling in the bedroom. Absolute nightmare doing it with 8x4 sheets, even with 2 of us. I ended up spending £35 on a ceiling prop from Toolstation which made it exponentially easier.

Also used soudal filling foam around the door frame and windows. Great stuff but definitely expands more than it claims! Had to cut off loads of excess foam with a knife.
