What "man jobs" have you done today?

Start of my new hifi rack. Will be another shelf where the nuts can be seen above the ryobi case. Inspired by another members homemade rack I saw here.

A ladder stand-off is great for doing gutters. If its PVC guttering you can do it from a ladder on your own, but cast iron or wood you'll need two people, or a tower if doing it yourself.

I need todo this too.. the front is easy but the back has a conservatory so I'll need to enlist nextdoor to have a walk way over the conservatory.. also need the conservatory gutters doing too.. but that's over a pond..

Anyone used one of those hedgehog things to prevent build up and make it easier to clear?

Changed the radiator fan on the car (which was a massive PITA without jacking it up), ripped off some skirting board and coving, fitted some floating-floor foam stuff, and moved a big pile of bricks. :p

That's something I plan to do at a later date, did you use a scaffold tower or just work from ladders ?

Worked from ladders. No stand off. Although they were only PVC and relatively easy to handle, my dad helped me. We had two sets of ladders and it made the job a lot easier and quicker. (It was raining again, but less wind.)

We did the long side of the house this afternoon.

The old stuff was grey, painted black, so I decided to simply replace it all with black as they were leaking too.

After cutting one length of guttering to finish off the back of the house it turned out we were a little short on the side. So it's back to B&Q for my dad tomorrow - OAP discount. :D

Don't tell me your switch cable goes up the wall and across above the door where its been plastered :O

That is pretty ghetto and dangerous for any future workers or DIY punters.

OP - what's to tell people that there's a cable there? Should be chased up to ceiling height. And how will they know not to drill around the door frame or where the hold switch was located?

That switch relocation is bad mate, you should have yanked the cable up from the old location (or cut it off in the ceiling and buried it dead in the wall) , replaced it in the ceiling and straight down to the new switch. Basic rules - cables at right angles to a visible fitting only....

Boarded the loft in my new place. Just moved in properly, so had to get that done so I could put my empty boxes and stuff up there. The middle was already done. There was one strip light, but got a second put in so its nice and bright.

I dont have a hedge hog but I do have a long pipe on my jetwash and blast the gutter run out once a year they clean the drain by hand.

Good points! I never knew about the right angles to the sockets, that does make sense. I will chase it up to the ceiling to correct it.

All you need to do now is put some battens across the V in truss's and put line of floor boards across for shelving :)

When I moved I had two lofts full of junk - I don't think I took anything that was in the lofts

While waiting for 4 min for last post above to load I was sat here looking at your loft -

Shouldn't there be horizontal and cross bracing on those trusses - Mine looked like yours and surveyor picked it out when we bought this house - I have cross braced every 4th truss -ie - bottom of first to top of 4th -- There is no triangulation to trusses to stop them leaning one way or the other in a very strong wind.

Took down the 40yr old fireplace surround.

1.5T of bricks smashed down, put in van for tip with good ones stored in shed ready for new oil tank platform.

Then cleaned and hoovered.

Then beer.

Great Sunday :D
