What "man jobs" have you done today?

Just been out cutting back some of the rose bush, along with trimming some of our pots from last year. Hoping that they will come back again ok this year after the long cold winter...save me a lot of money this year!!

Nice to see a bit of sun, but the garden does need a fair bit of work once I have some spare cash after the wedding in June!

Hope you left spaces at the eaves where the roof meets the floor,to allow ventilation.

I did leave gaps yeah, I have learned my lesson in the past - read online guides before attempting to do anything!!

Try doing the insulation in the summer, then you will realise it wasn't that bad doing it now.

Dave

I cannot even begin to imagine how awful that would be!

Got another week off at work, so plan on doing a bit of work at the allotment we have just recently obtained...also try and wash the cars.

There is so much stuff that needs to be done around the house and garden, however with the upcoming wedding in June the bank account is a bit grim so these will have to wait till after the wedding and honeymoon!

Using a blow torch to burn the remaining ivy roots of our concrete garage ready to repaint. I could have sanded them flat (maybe) but what kind of man turns down a chance to play with fire?

Finished hedge stage 2 - planting Osmanthus delavayi:

Already makes the front of the house look much better with a boundary in it. Can't wait the ten years for them to reach their full height :p.

Last job is to mix some bonemeal through the topsoil whenever I can be bothered. Fewer excuses now that it's light in the evenings!

Week off work sun out so decided to get the Kacher out and give the patio a good clean. In doing so I seem to have dislodged some of the mortar stuff???? in the gaps (see pic below). What is this stuff called? I remember the landscape gardner adding it, it was straight out of a pack, it looked like sand. He applied it dry and it set solid in a few hours?

Yesterday I went to pick up a secondhand wardrobe, had to remove the rear seats in my car, pad the wardrobe with plenty of dust sheets and held the boot down with a small rachet strap... It felt pretty good racheting it up to hold everything firm! :)

Today I am beginning to plan a diy project...the downstairs toilet which at present is disgusting!!!

Chopped some more kindling
Replaced sealant on the bath
Began getting the garden ready for an overhaul
Fed the neighbours chickens
Ate some super fresh poached eggs

Next jobs:

Weed-killer the path
Lay a decent path, probably gravel
Widen the lawn
Grow some veg
Dig out a patio area
Sort some built-in wardrobes in the main bedroom

That should hopefully take us up to the end of year 1 in the new house.

scrubbed the decking as it was caked in layers of green algae and crap. Only used warm water and household bleach and came up really well, just waiting for a 'warmer' day to use the decking Oil.

Q: Does anyone know of any good products to treat a hardwood balustrade rail (decking is on a balcony)? The rail itself is a dark red / brown wood similar in look to mahogany but i know it isnt!

Thanks

If the weather holds up tomorrow I am thinking of cleaning the decking.

When you say you used bleach was this diluted in the water first or did you scrub in then wash with the water?

I have a pressure washer so that will help but just wondering what best to use to help with the cleaning process.

Have a Detergent Bottle lance which came with my pressure washer use to use Turtle Wax Power Wash Patio & Deck cleaner, to clean the patio & deck in my last place, got a 5 ltr can from Halford.

But, you could use any Patio & Deck pressure washer cleaner.

I finally feel worthy to join this thread.

Reduced an overgrown laurel hedge from 20-25ft high to a more reasonable 8ft. Local gardeners were quoting 400 quid for the job. For £100 less I'm now the owner of some serious hedge trimmers and a garden shredder.

Using the shredder was great fun ! I can highly recommend it's therapeutic value if you like some wanton destruction in your life.

Must get out more .....
