What "man jobs" have you done today?

Don't think he was following best practice but I know someone who slipped and got tangled in the ladder when putting lights above the door. Lucky escape but managed to do a fair bit of damage still.
My stepdad had two ladders tied together and trapped his foot between two rungs when falling off it... Hit the ground and could see the sole of his foot!

Having received my replacement brand new LG TV remote due to the old one dying, I immediately spilt beer all over it and had to take the **** apart to stop sticking buttons.
Then I baked an apple pie and got told off for not bringing the filo pastry down to room temp before using it.
Dang.
At least I can have a quiet evening now....oh wait. It's Halloween.

Those lights are awesome, my fear of heights kills doing anything like this, though I am tempted to put something under the flat roof, while I dont like heights I have climbed from rear extension onto side extension before. hmmm hah
I've got worse with age..

As a kid, my Dad built a load of bungalows, so ladder safety and scaffolding towers were everywhere, he checked ladders before we were allowed up, and he'd clip you around the ear if you were going to do anything daft..
After having to design and 3d print a load of angled beam mountings for some permanent outdoor lights, I finally finished installing them on the front of the house.. I somehow ended up using just over 35M of lights (just over 7 strings, each string is 5M)..

(Halloween preset 1 shown above). ready for tonight!

These are the 'new' Govee "Outdoor Permanent lights 2", I bought 45M, ended up using more than I thought (just over 35M) since the porch has them going around it and doubling back along the wall infront of the door..

Will be lighting up the 'shed' and rear extension next..
Note to self...

House lit up like a huge flashing Halloween beacon will send out the equivalent of a bat signal to all the kids within a 50 mile radius...

It's nuts.. at least 50 trick or treaters already...

[edit] ended up being around 100+ visits, some with multiple kids, ended up dishing out 157 treats overall..

We have others not too far away that go crazy decorating their drives/houses in a US halloween style and announce on facebook, so we tend to get more than average around us..

All callers seemed very polite and made an effort to dress up, we got our older teenager to cover the door after a while, payback for all the times I've taken them out on Halloween..

We did get one family drive up to the house.. they seemed to be doing a tour in a car of all the houses that advertise on Facebook, but must have mistaken ours for one.. LOL..

That looks ace, I'm looking to do something similar too.

Started putting up plaster coving to discover the ceiling, recently re-boarded and skimmed by previous owners, has a 15mm bow on one side meaning where two mitres meet are about an inch apart!

Unfortunately it's a patterned coving. I think my only option will be to make 3 or 4 cuts along the length to try and smooth around it :(

Loft boarded about 5sqm, much needed storage space in our bungalow.
I want to do this.. I have some extra rolls of insulation arrive last week to change our very old stuff out..

What 'system' did you use? I don't know whether to go with just basic 'legs' style or if the more expensive rail systems are worth it.

@Demon these look great, looked into them when the original was released about 18months ago after seeing them on a Youtubers channel, this would be the compromise between the misses wanting Xmas lights up and me not, the originals only had white fixture and our house has dark soffits so forgot about them, the V2 comes in black which is awesome.

Have you got 2 sets here? one for each level, how's the wiring and control boxes?

The front is just one 45M set, it comes with 2 x long and 2 x short extensions and 9 x 5m 'strands', each with 12 (I think!) light pucks.. so basically you can split things up quite flexibly.. essentially to split the top/bottom is just a long extension lead behind a drainpipe.. You can also disabled individual lights in the app and overlay that with an animated effect if you have the time to mess around, so even more flexibility.

I bought the newer Outdoor Permanent Lights 2, these are cheaper than the Pro versions, but do come in black as well which I needed.. and come in 15/30/45M options, basically you just get more 5M strings in each option and the control box is identical, I think you also get more extension cables as the length increases.

The instructions say you cannot cut the lights, but in actuality there is nothing electrically stopping you, I needed 3 lights on the final run to reach the end of the house so literally cut down one of the strings and soldered/heat shrunk/taped the joints and its all working reliably (each puck regenerates the signal to pass on to the next, and they all share a common 36V power feed).

There is a power supply, which has a connector that goes to the control box, which has a 5M (I think) lead to the first light... In my setup, the control box is bottom right in the front room, I drilled a hole to get the cable out, and with a small extension cable added joined to the start of the run..

Really appreciate the detailed reply @Demon these sound like they would work great, I've got several Govee products and they've all been great, did you go direct to buy?

I bought a paint sprayer a few years ago and it’s amazing. I can paint all the fences both sides in less than an hour. I just need to water the paint down a touch but it works a treat!
Can only really do that if you’ve either no close neighbours, or fence panels with no gaps and literally zero wind on the day you’re painting, otherwise the overspray from those things travels quite a distance.

I used the loft legs and boards available at Wickes. I wanted to keep it as cheap as possible as we will be converting the loft in the future so it will all be ripped out at that point.

We benefitted from the government insulation scheme which saved us a ton and took loft insulation up to 40cm (30cm above joist level) so the XL legs worked great.

As well as a couple packs of the Wickes loft boards I also had a bunch of 18mm OSB offcuts I found in the B&Q scrap bins at a pound a piece, worth looking in there if you're shopping.
