What "man jobs" have you done today?

It reckons it'll be mild Tues - sat, so will get mine late Saturday..it's a bog at the moment!

Just took 5 buckets worth of rubble to the tip. Only 5000 more to go! I'm so tight I'm not paying for a skip.

Talking of the Tip - Ours are going appointment only on Monday - Does anyone else have to book in and if so have you encountered queueing. This is going to mess everything up at moment just when we need access anyday.

I didn’t think I’d have to cut it again this year but here we are.

Lines are looking good. It was a tad wet so I’ll go over it again to pick up the last of the cuttings.

Looking forward to spring to get it level and looking good.

The temptation to paint two shades of preservative on that fence at the same width as the lawn stripes is strong with me :D

It's better this way, sometimes there is a bit of a queue, but its never crazy like it used to be.

It's a pain when you need multiple visits though

I'm still struggling to understand the rationale. In all my visits to Bridgnorth tip, I've never seen a queue! Now they'll be queuing onto to road showing ID!

Yeah been this way in Birmingham for years.

The biggest faff is filling in the online form but I always get a slot and never queue.

Mine had been like this since covid and is brilliant.
Before covid it was a nightmare queue wise.

Started to break up the base a 6x4 shed. Looks like previous owners decided to just use a metal and glass conservatory as MOT Type 1 :o

Ripped these out. Some incredibly good bits of timber in them. In fact I think I'm going to take some of them out of the skip tomorrow and add to my already ridiculous collection, too good to throw away on reflection.

Fixed the cooker. Had a ring that had stopped working a while ago. I was going to purchase a replacement ceramic ring and sort it but wanted to be certain what the part number was, so opened the top up to have a look.

Could barely believe it when I found the reason it wasn’t working - one of the spade connections had literally been obliterated and as a result the wire was just dangling down doing nothing!

On closer inspection, seems the obliteration was a result of arcing, and I could see why - the wire has literally zero slack on it, so it’s probably come loose when being assembled at the factory, or just not been pushed home properly. Not a cheap cooker either, it’s a SMEG electric range.

Oddly it’s taken almost 10yrs to fail!

Anyway, a couple of minutes replacing the spade connection and all is good again…nice and cheap repair for once.

Will get some wire at some point and completely replace the existing one though, as I’d prefer it to have a little slack, rather than being such a tight fit.

Also going to dig a little deeper now I’ve discovered that as we’ve had an issue for a long time now with the smaller of the 2 ovens causing the power to trip. Having seen what I did beneath the hob top, I wouldn’t be surprised to find another wiring problem elsewhere. A little disappointing for a fairly high end brand (or at least so I thought).

Put my 4y/o work.

However the absolute n00b only managed 3 buckets........

^ I am conceding I may actually need a skip. I have all of these - probably 75-150 buckets worth, based on the "dent" that 3 did (tip allowance). I also have the old shed.

Also --- did another bit of clearing in the workshop-cum-gym. I can now get access to remove the workbench; although it looks like it may be structural

Welded.....and bolted to the floor; with the tiles "around" it.

Space ready for a final clear though; and then I can pretty much go direct to laying the floor and buying gym gear.

I usually find that I can get almost 4 grab bags for the price of even the smallest skip (and larger as well).

After trying both for smaller amounts I find the grab bags are best as they can be collected from around 4m from the road, easier to fit around cars etc, and the various companies I've used over the years allow you to return unused bags when collecting and just pay for what you did use.

That's a good shout - I had written them off but maybe for the rubble it's ideal. The wooden shed is easy enough to strip into bits and take separately (as it'll take up a lot of volume for not a lot of weight).

I thought those hippo style grab bags don't take rubble or anything heavy.

Tbh I'd just get multiple skips

I've filled most I've had with rubble and/or wet clay to the top. They state they take a tonne and think I've tested that :D

Incidentally, the cost of hippo bags is hilarious. The local companies here (down south) charge around £65 when collected and will drop bags off for free (as long as you use them with a couple of months).

Also consider council for the shed. Which sounds crazy but ours will take them,as long as they are in sections.
It's a fee but could save some hassle.
