What "man jobs" have you done today?

After a LOT of deliberation over which one to get, fitted a Reolink Doorbell Cam at the weekend.
Existing chime only had an 8v ac transformer and I did not fancy fully re-wiring or re-decorating.
Ripped out the innards of the chime box and replaced with a 24v dc LED driver to power the doorbell with existing hidden wiring.
You would never know. :D

Dumb question here... Are there any impact driver bits that work with a2 screws and are magnetic? / holders that are magnetic?

A quick Google indicates stainless (A2) screws aren't magnetic but they keep falling off my bits when cladding..

I have a DeWalt bit holder, that has a slidable tube, that will go over the screw head and hold it in place, then retract as you screw it in.

Here

Finished the rest of the fencing both sides. I’ve used some left over feather edge boards on top for now. I may change them at some point but the rain should run off for now atleast.

It’s about 15m in total and used most of the 300 boards I ordered. The metal posts were mega easy and I’ll be using them for the back garden fence in the new year.

How are you chaps organising your cables? I bought 10 boxes for 20 quid, thinking they'd be a bit bigger than they are. They aren't much better than the takeaway containers currently being used lol. Dongles/usbs etc.

I'm now thinking I just ziplock stuff to make it fractionally easier to find?

Which cables?! Firstly I don't mix categories e.g. my USB cables, PC gubbins and memory cards live in a small drawer somewhere upstairs. Display and networking cables are in a bigger box elsewhere. Power stuff is somewhere like the utility/under stairs. And I have a box of assorted DC charging bricks when I need to randomly chop something up for DC.

I've just got an 80l box full of stuff atm. They're all neatly wound but it's a chore to find anything so I end up just buying it from Amazon lol. Some of it is long-term gear like spare modular PSU cables....some of it is travel adaptors....smart plugs etc. I think I might just do the ziplock bag idea and keep it in the box. Risk of going full autistic otherwise lol!

excavated all the rotten mulch and hair and gunk from the bathroom basin traps. yuck
Awful job, but good once done!

Access to a 3D Printer? There are many modular storage/organiser projects you can design your own layouts/boxes/bits and pieces and print them so you can get them all organised neatly.
Our resident u-tuber katie279 did a review of the gridfinity stuff and seems to have gone a bit overboard with organising her entire house..

But there are many little cable organisers for grid finity for all kinds of cables to allow you to wrap them up and store them within the confines of gridfinity standard sized boxes.

Was this the double sided fencing? I quite like that can you send me where the metal posts are from? Any plans to paint it or just leave as is?

I presume you also just used a couple (or 1?) bag of postcrete per post?

The posts are Durapost, just the standard galvanized ones rather than powder coated as they aren’t on show. They have them in Wickes but there’s also loads of online places too to order from.

I ended up using about half a bag of postcrete per one and then topped it up with my own mix of concrete afterwards. It probably would have been about 1.5 bags per post if I used just postcrete.

I will paint it eventually but probably a very light golden brown so it ends up looking very similar to how it is now!

Does anyone know of any design software a novice can use? I'm almost tempted to fire up the Sims lol. Trying to plan out a double side extension and workshop overhaul -- really want to visualise what the house would look like 'done'. May even pay someone to knock it up as a water colour

Sketchup?

I like bluebeam but it costs money and is 2d

Maybe it's just I just learned how to use it....feels like quite a curve though. Need more of a visualisation than technical drawing to get buy off on extending the mortgage massively
Challenge with extending as well is it might be cheaper and less painful just to move house. Mind you, I think your stamp duty would be mad £20k+ so maybe it is worth staying.

Yeah that's a good point - probably more of a reason to extend tbh. Even at the modest end of the next upgrade it's 47k stamp duty.

Arcsite, it’s a paid app beyond their trial, but you can pay for a month etc I think. I found it a cracking piece of software and not that difficult to pick up and use either.
