What "man jobs" have you done today?

Does anyone know of any design software a novice can use? I'm almost tempted to fire up the Sims lol. Trying to plan out a double side extension and workshop overhaul -- really want to visualise what the house would look like 'done'. May even pay someone to knock it up as a water colour

Try https://floorplanner.com/ it's free, simple, easy to learn and is what a lot of estate agents use to create 2D and 3D floor plans. As with most programs if you choose the pay option you can do a lot more. There are better options but they cost a lot more.

Jobs today:

First colour coat on our master bedroom - took almost an entire 5L can
Wired in a new double switch on the other side of the door - now powers both the spotlight above the door and ensuite light. Combined with moving some sockets in the bedroom itself, I reckon we've saved a good few hundred quid - learned a few things along the way and didn't blow myself up - result.

Edit: Also threw together a rough CAD model of the wardrobes we want building to send over to the carpenter, to see what we want.

Up at 4.30am as couldn't sleep.
Decided to do the Asda shop for when it opened, 6am.
Shot to Aldi, then home.
Unpacked everything = sorted.
Cleaned out pond filter & tidied garden up.
Got hair cut.
Afternoon now free to do what I like :-)

Starting thinking about the big extension - probably ~4-5 years off, but given how much stamp duty is to move upwards, I am probably here for the foreseeable :D

Just messing around atm. You can see current floor plan overlaid --- I can afford 1.3m external dim to achieve a 900mm alley way. I don't think I want to go right up to the boundary -- although I probably could (aspect of houses is favourable for this). Need space for bikes etc :).

The challenge will be the workshop vizaviz the house --- I only have 1.7m gap. Probably doesn't make sense to compromise the mega extension to save chopping off a bit of the workshop to be fair. But that's what the floorplan I am playing with below does -- only go as far as current utility footprint. It means the third bedroom becomes 4.77x3.47 though - so we'd have 3 decent doubles and then could go into the attic for a guest suite.

Priority downstairs is the kitchen size so whilst compromise and not having the bougee kitchen diner family room, it is super functional for what I need.

Any of the big email providers offer several GB of storage by default for free. Google Photos/Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, iCloud. I wouldn't be surprised if your pics were already backed up.

Much to the dismay of the kids, went to B and Q and got as toilet seat, not bothering which matching the sink this time and just went for white wooden seat.
Plus the seat we got with the bathroom.... currently costs £175 or something insane, since the first one only last 15 months or so.... hah

Replaced 3x handles/barrels on downstairs internal doors. The new ones from Screwfix look identical to the old ones and had small barrels that go through the door that the screws go into, which weren't present on the old ones. I'm not sure if they're a new thing, or whatever fitters Bovis hired were lazy and just used the 2x small screws. The rotational movement has ended up knackering the spring, hence replacement. Not a huge job, but satisfying as the handle movements feel much better, but look exactly the same so no pics.

Sorted out my mums cctv. The first of many Christmas jobs I think. I was told to bring a chainsaw with me so am expecting a lot of wood chopping ahead

Spent the last few bits off time off in December building up the new porch floor.

Pushed to get the boarding finished today and promptly forgot to take a nice photo before, er, putting the old boards down on top to protect the subfloor :o

When we're ready to tile, I'll lift up the crappy cement stained layer for a fresh clean surface.

Do you have to attach the dpc to anything @LuckyBenski or does it just live there?

Still debating doing a major on the workshop
Do it! You'll get itchy feet soon if you don't start something :P

Building Control inspector said you can't really seal it as such so just ensure it's dressed up against the DPC. I did use some OB1 sealant but I've discovered that doesn't actually bond to the DPM. It's polyethylene so basically nothing sticks to it. It seals nicely unless you pull on it though.

Bottom line, nope - just get them touching/overlapping.
