What percentage of your wage do put towards motoring?

If you want a good job and don't enjoy living in a city or dive then you have to pay up to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Petrols expensive....

Including fuel 13%, that's the damage 18,000 miles a year does. More like 5% taking fuel out of the equation.

There seem to be some higher than average incomes mentioned in the thread, fuel alone for 12,000 miles at 35mpg is circa 10% of an "average" wage.

I've just realised how pointless this thread is as it completely depends on the amount you earn. Someone might of had a complete engine rebuild, but it might only be 2% of there wages because they have money falling out of there rectum.

I'm not at all interested in how much any one here earns or takes home. I was looking for a percentage of that income which goes towards motoring, so everyone can compare.

If someone has had a complete engine rebuild and it came to 2% then so be it, if the same scenario came about with another individual and it was 40% then the question would remain the same. The only difference is the outcome percentage.

It massively depends on milage, also someone could spend 2% on fuel and take a long train journey to work or spent 10% of pay on fuel getting to work. Hard to compare when fuel is such a factor in running a car.

I live 5 miles from work and drive an old reliable Honda that I service myself, so it's hardly comparitive to someone doing 20k miles a year in a brand new car.

Plus I have no desire to plant a load of cash on a car.

Pretty high figures unless the cars are quite tasty mind?

You record everything that's been done to your car since you got it? Be interesting to see cost over a very long period.

About 15% before deductions over the last 12 months*. Will probably be more over the next 12 as my commute is longer and my pay is the same.

*Doesn't take into consideration income from travel expenses as I don't have that to hand.

Just done the same as fox and updated my PH garage. Over the time I have owned the Clio it has cost just over 20% of my income, all in.
