What percentage of your wage do put towards motoring?

Too much right now as I'm getting it perfect but after this I'd hope for £300 which is 25-30% :| To be fair it is the winter and I've been driving more than I usually would. Come the summer I could half my fuel usage by using my bike.

I'm running a spreadsheet from when I got it at the start of this month and I'll be afraid to look at it come december.

£930 insurance
£215 tax
£300 on a clutch
£100 on two tyres
~£170 in fuel

A little difficult to answer as my car is both my track car and daily commuter, therefore the purchase of tyres and other wear and tear items has been exaggerated than if it were just my daily.

So for insurance, tax, fuel, tyres and service + repairs: 60% since january 2011

Including unneeded bits and bobs: 74% :x

Even i convinced myself this was ridiculous and looked over it again, turns out i'm really **** at working out percentages :p

Its actually, insurance, tax, fuel, tyres and service + repairs is 37%

And every penny i've spent on the car since jan 2011 is 56%

Tyres @ 51,500 miles. Wednesday 1st February 2012
2x Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 £430

Wednesday 1st November 2006
4x Eagle F1 GS-D3 £500

 lol

That first set was for the old 17's, hence the price. 4 F1A2's for those wheels is still about £500.

However in August 2009 I paid £320 for 2 Eagle F1 Assymetric on my current wheels, so thats an increase of £100 in 2.5 years in that size. Bizarre.

Pro-rata for the 5 months I've owned the car, about 40-50% if I include buying it outright or about 12% if I work on predicted depreciation instead.

Ignore buying and asset depreciation and it's not a lot. Maybe 4%?

I can't believe people are spending >10% of their net income on their cars. Ridiculous.

Many of us commute large distances and the wage earned or practical implications justify the travel and therefore the cost.

I pay around 15-20% off my take home pay running my car, around 15-20k miles a year

Mot and service including tyres probably averages about 800 per year.
Tax 200+
Insurance £400
Fuel about 600

About 2k a year in running a car. If I'm not ****ING depressed I am now .
That probably a out 10% of my take home pay.

Getting increasingly fed up with driving and if I could get away without a car I would.

So you choose a performance orientated car?! Why not get a Nissan Micra?

22% a third of that is fuel.

Tax,
MOT,
Insurance
Servicing, bills & consumables, (A large chunk, probably half I will have left after 12 months, assuming nothing goes majorly wrong)
Breakdown,
Petrol.

You earn over 30k a year and are upset about your 50 quid a month petrol bill?

Seriously?

About 25% - a good chunk of that is fuel. That's for the Mondeo.

The MX5's largest expense excluding mods is the insurance. All the mods were paid for a while ago. It doesn't get driven much in comparison so it's more of an "asset" (albeit a relatively worthless one) than an on-going cost... Well it makes sense in my mind anyway :D

I don't earn a great deal and I live at home so I'm making the most of things while I can. I love cars and I love driving so it costs what it costs. I could sell both cars and buy something boring and economical and save money more rigorously but how dull would life be if we sacrificed what we enjoy?

^^ I've got different circumstances but I look at it in the same way. I don't really spend much money on anything else and I'm happy to and probably will pay more of my income towards my car. The only problem I can foresee with that is a woman

Might switch to men

at the moment i only spend about 10% on running the car I have access to as i only pay for the petrol i use (Family car), however I am saving up about 60-75% of my monthly wage to get the deposit i need for the car I want.
