Sorry if this thread seems unnecessary but I need some advice on a new PSU, my system is an AMD phenom 6 core at 3.8 ghz and will eventually have 8 gigs of ddr3 ram an ati 5850 and a 500gig hdd, all on a ddr3 directx 10.1 motherboard. Can anyone help direct me to what PSU will run this (preferably under £120) any advice is welcome.

These will do the job though you will have to add shipping to the price but it will allow room to add more HDD's and even Crossfire perhaps further down the line.

Thanks for the warning sk82jack and thanks for all the quick replies so you guys are saying just about any 800w+ psu from a decent brand i.e. xfx will do?

800w+ is probably overkill even with future upgrades but go for a 750w or something if your worried about it. There's loads of good recommendations here so I won't bother linking to any (plus I'm lazy lol)

The xfx Black is a great PSU. It's a Seasonic underneath, which is only a good thing. The 850w version is brilliant and can be found for about £110 delivered. There's the modular Corair HX 650w,750w and 850w psu's which are probably the most highly regarded outside the real top end market, and come with a 7 year warranty. I would highly recommend spending a little more for the highest quality. 850w also gives you loads of headroom for the future.

But yes, the Antec would do and it's much cheaper.

Where?

And that XFX is in Corsair money territory

I can't remember exactly where I read them I was just googleing different supplies, and I am tempted by the corsairs just for the name but that would mean using my backup build for another month to get the money for one I could get an XFX on friday and I know It's sad but I do like the looks of the xfx
