What retro things have you done today?

Got any media for the Magneto Optical?

Yes, so far I have a single 500 MB rewritable disk. I finally know what I'm looking for if I wanted more.

The drive powers on and takes the single disk, but the eject mechanism needs some help in ejecting the disk. It looks awesome in my set up though.

My options would be to sell it as is or use the case and put another type of SCSI device in the housing.

So, whilst a bit bored I was casually browsing ebay - you know the usual retro pc hardware searches. I think, if it turns out to be real, and actually arrive, I might just have got an absolute bargain of my own.

It's early days as I have just 'won' a 'buy it now' for an Athlon slot-a 1GHz for, I kid you not, £40 excluding postage! If it turns out to be real then I've done well, I'm not sure it's it's as good as some on here, but it'll do me.. I have been looking for a GFD, slot-a golden finger device, for about a year now and I've yet to see one hence looking around the slot-a stuff. :(

High end Slot-A stuff commands serious money! You've got more chance winning the lottery than finding a gold finger! If that turns out to be a £40 1ghz CPU you have quite a bargain.

My £20 V3 3000 turned up today. Stuck it in my SS7 Machine as that was already setup with a V3. Card works great. Did a pass with 3D Mark 2000 and i saw no corrupt graphics. I will leave it in the SS7 machine and put the other one in the Via C3 Machine.

Cleaned the £2.50 waterblocks up, removed all the corrosion and properly cleaned the o-rings. Then had to work out how I was going to mount them on the board. Nothing 8 bolts and 16 nuts couldn't solve!

Anyone able to confirm if the gamecube AV cable works in the N64? Even if my N64 originally came with the RF connector.

edit

ahhhhhhhhh my N64 still works!!!! works in an old hauppauge HD PVR of all things, but won't display on any tv

Hmmm, the plot thickens, I pretty much have a immaculate condition copy of pokemon snap that works fine in the console, but i've tried 4 other games and it doesn't load them, possible that all 4 might just be dead? Even though I know they were working perfectly fine about 4-5 years ago when i last played a few of them

Triggered.
2 different sellers. 2 ******* stupid packaging

No anti static, no box, just bubble wrap and brown paper.

Ignoring the bubble wrap and static. A motherboard is possibly rigid enough to survive that. A VLB card is not.

I can beat that. Aureal Vortex sent in an envelope, and the card wrapped in tin foil!

If you wanted, you can post them to me and I can test them and send them back?

Cheers for the offer, bit of an update, I’ve got most of my games going, it takes a bit of persuasion (pushing the cart in and out multiple times) but I’ve got them going a bit more reliably now, so hopefully What I’ve done has cleaned the contacts somewhat, all I’ll say is Mario 64 doesn’t look the best on a 4K tv does it xD

either way I’m over the moon that it’s actually still working, and the fact the AV RCA cable from my GameCube actually works, screw you RF

What a beauty (49" 4K TV), Believe it or not the camera is making it look better than it actually is, it looks worse in person haha, either way i'm super happy that the very same console i've had since release when I was a kid, is still working to this day.

Can anyone recommend a good disk polisher / scratch remover. CEX do / did it for 50p a go or something but I'm reluctant to go in given its a **** show at the best of times in there. The few on eBay have pretty bad reviews too...

I wouldn’t use one. I had better results with two brand new microfibre cloths and some Meguires Plast-X polish.

My recently acquired Monkey Island CD-ROM had a 2mm thick full circumference scratch when I bought it. A 5 minute going over with a brand new cloth and some Plast-X, then a very light removal of the polish with the 2nd cloth has made pretty much every mark disappear.

With this method you can focus scratch removal on the actual scratches rather than have to potentially make the whole disk worse!

SS7 system is still crashing on restart on AT power. The error is a 0d fatal exception which from my reading is programs trying to get to memory that they cannot access. Still annoying enough that I think im done with this board and going back to the P3.
