What retro things have you done today?

Dual S604 build is now taking shape after a week or so's hiatus owing to the wife contracting COVID-19

Just got 3 more hard-lines to bend into shape and then we can leak-test.

I hope she is on the road to recovery!

I'm really interested in seeing how that 604 system holds up for modern use. I think you had two quad cores in there, and 8GB of RAM? I'm sure with a modern graphics card it'll be just fine at 60FPS gaming in 2012-2017 games (like the i7 860 system I had).

The 295 is a weird card because it has way more power (in SLI friendly titles) than it has the VRAM to cope with (768mb I tink), and lacks DX11 for newer games. I guess it makes a good 1080p 120FPS DX9 and DX10 card!

My dumb XPS laptop purchase is nearly done. I have upgraded the T83100 (2.1GHz / 3MB L2) to a T9300 (2.5GHz / 6MB L2). It's got 4GB of RAM. I only need to superglue down some flappy trim things. I've gone for Windows 7 and it's quite usable and will happily run games like HL2 at high settings 40fps.

Weirdly my Intel Pentium Silver N5000 (1.1 to 2.7 quad core, 6 watts) netbook with the same resolution screen (ish) performs about the same in games!

Working on a small trolley with a CRT and old consoles to wheel in and out as I don't have space for it to stay as a dedicated set up these days :)

Cable management is going to be the challenge, so far so good but only got the PS2 up at the mo. More tonight

Thats really tidy, what other consoles do you plan to add?

Nice that little TV has an rgb scart!

That's a really good idea!

I have one of the 22PX300 Playstation 2 TVs. Would fit ideally with something like that

I also don't really have the space to have my retro always set up....hmmm

Hey that's a really cool setup. Digging the Sony CRT too! I used to have a 21" Sony Consumer CRT before I got my PVM's and the picture was great. I did a similar thing a while ago with an Ikea Kallax Cube which I fitted a drawer too. I keep my controllers and everdrive's in the drawer and switch out between the SNES and Famicom.

Amazing! A drawer would be very handy. Looks great :)

Wish I knew what happened to my SNES. I think I must have lent it to someone as I can't find it anywhere. It was modded with a 50/60hz switch too.
Funnily enough I found a load of SNES carts in my attic when looking for a atari style joystick, so it's just the main unit that's missing.

However the SNES Mini is a decent enough substitute, especially if modded.

Bought a Boxed "Open never used " Philips CD Writer from the bay... received Philips box with "used" Compaq CD Writer

Thats awful! easy "not as described" case tho.

I have spent this evening working on getting the best noise-less recordings from my SW60XG. I think I have got there with a little help from a denoize filter on my DAW.

https://youtu.be/3d8stSDYjmU if anyone would care to take a listen and see if the noise is acceptable!

It does come in handy to put the pads etc away and then just cart the whole thing out the way

What consoles will you be using on your retro cart? Gotta play some God Hand on that PS2 :)

I added the GameCube last night :) would like to have the Megadrive on there too but would need some sort of stand so it can sit over one of the other systems as the shelves aren't wide enough for more than one system :)

Never played God Hand :O

I'm going to be throwing GTA V at it to see what it can achieve. The memory of the GTX 295 was even weirder than you remember, 896MB per GPU! The dual-core Gallatin (plus HT) CPUs didn't boot in the board so I had to drop back to the Irwindale single-core (with HT) CPUs. So I'll only have 2 cores, 4 threads to play with.

My Socket 370 stuff arrived today. I've made up the 1GHz system with a new Noiseblocker fan and my heavy heatsink, but I bought the wrong adapter for SATA to Molex so I've got a wait until that comes :(

I have no idea how good or bad it is but I just managed to bag a fully boxed Gainward MX420SE "Pro450/TV power pack" 64mb DDR PCI card for £12 buy it now.

The card was listed as AGP but the box has big PCI label on it and I saw the connector straight off.

Nice addition to the collection if nothing else :)

Can't find much information at present except for this from Gpuzoo - if true it's a pretty robust card and seems its a Gainward special -

"Gainward GeForce4 PowerPack! Pro/450 TV/PCI is a desktop graphics processing unit, based on NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420. The GPU boasts NVIDIA Video Processing Engine architecture, and it is manufactured using 150 nm technological process. The card has graphics clocked at 250 MHz. Furthermore, it has 2 pixel shaders, 2 ROPs, along with 4 texture units. The GeForce4 PowerPack! Pro/450 TV/PCI has 64 MB of DDR memory. Since the memory is clocked at 200 MHz, and uses 128 bit interface, the effective memory bandwidth is 6.4 GB/s. The GPU supports PCI interface, and needs 1 motherboard slot."

Sounds good man! I'm going to attempt to make some recordings of some of my Midi modules and cards. Going to start with the Turtle Beach Malibu the weekend although I'm only going to use Audacity and the line in on an old dell OptiPlex pc I have.

Cheers mate. Hoping to get some more up soon. Am going to try a video for the cleaning and restoration of my P2 compaq deskpro too.(Unless the new psu blows too).

I am thinking about moving on my JETWAY 994AN-L and looking for something with 2 ISA slots so I can use my homemade adlib and sw69xg alongside a pci soundcard.
The SBLive can handle dos sound and the adlib/sw60xg will cover all my music needs!
