What retro things have you done today?

I’m conflicted about the whole “retro scalping” thing. £20 was clearly too cheap, and the fact that you didn’t offer postage on a rare(ish) item will have massively limited your audience. On the other hand £200 is too much, but clearly the fact that he’ll offer postage is a big plus to the fact that he’s got more chance of it selling for/near his asking price.

Would it be wrong of me to sell my recently acquired Gainward BLISS 7800GS+ AGP for £150+ (cheap, even for the going rate) when I bought it for £40? I bought it as “untested” (which it appears to genuinely be in this case), but as we all know, that’s a gamble stacked against the buyer! Would I be in the wrong to sell me £10 Voodoo 3 2000 for £75~? How’s about my G4 Cube for £400-500 when I bought it for <£100?

I guess that guy is clearly just flipping it for cash. My £15 V3 PCI I bought as part of a bundle 3 years ago sold for £110 I think, with no guilt on my part whatsoever as I had use of it over the years.

He didn't think "wow that's a bargain I'm going to pick it up and have some fun and I know I can make my money back in 3 months / years" he thought "wow that's a bargain I can immediately flip it for £180 profit!". I guess the only angle he could play is by offering postage he is letting people further afield buy it.

I buy a lot of stuff to purely move on for profit. It pays for the stuff I want to keep. Ultimately the market dictates an items worth. If its not worth it, it won't sell.

For me, I try to get my things for as cheap as possible, or its fair value in my eyes, but if someone buys something off me and i make a nice profit, and they are happy to pay what I'm asking then everyone is happy.

as with everything there is always a balance. one that is never going to please everyone

I have made some money on Retro stuff, i personally see that as more fair in the grand scheme, older rarer stuff has an appreciating value to it. The current GPU / console crazyness is purely greed in sadly nearly all cases, nothing more as a high percentage of these people have 0 interest in the items at all in the first place and rather than it being a collector marketplace. I think that is what gets me more than anything rightly or wrongly

BUT! if the numpties paying £1000+ for a £469 card didn't do it......wouldn't be an issue in the first place, so its all self fulfilling lol

I have never bought a computer item to flip it for profit a few days later. I did preorder a PS5 but decided to build a new computer instead so sold it to cover the cost + ebay fees only.

To me I see no problem buying an item and using it for a while, then selling it on for the same cost or profit after its had some use.

Anyway, back on topic. Its getting close on my Speed Bay best race times!

This hobby has paid for itself many times over for me :)

I had offers of £130 for my boxed sb2.0 that I got for £20! But I want to hang onto you that.

I haven't played that game in years. Used to love it

First one I take it?
Man that's expensive for a boxed copy now!
Yep, Moto Racer 1. It’s available as Abandonware now. Apparently no license so fill your boots with with the cd image.
Works great with cd audio too.

I’ve got a Matrox oem Moto racer copy at my parents house but it was always rubbish on Matrox Mystique, much better on 3dfx

Oh fantastic! I will have to grab it that case, thank you :)

Be cool to run it in 3dfx mode on the voodoo 2

It's not a Glide game unfortunately (D3D) nor are there any Glide patches

Install the 3.22 patch and add the following to command line shortcut -3DFX -NoPal256 -Alpha
Also set D3D from 'on' to 'filtered' in the game menu

Works great on Voodoo 3

Ahh ok, still worth grabbing though :)

I have no end of trouble getting McRae 1 to work in 3dfx mode. I think that is a D3D game too right?

McRae crashed at the start of my game on my Voodoo 3, but that was only because there was a bug with the game when using the last good supported 3dfx driver (1.07.00-WHQL) It worked fine with 1.05.00
