What retro things have you done today?

This arrived yesterday:

Socket 775, AGP, DDR1 (and a 2.8Ghz Celeron)

Nice looking board, simple, but looks nice in red!

Tried the Ti4600 in it - now getting a display output, unfortunately though it's a screen full of blue blocky corruption - but can "see" the post happening.
That's going to be faulty VRAM by the sounds of it. A Volt-mod may bring it back to life, but it's more than possible it needs new RAM :(

@Armageus - if you like Amiga BTW, that should be an ideal board for Amithlon ;)
Interesting, I'll have a look into that - as hadn't really got a use for this board (other than the fact it was the cheapest working AGP board I could find other than S478 which coolers are getting scarcer for)

Was £12 including postage - which seemed ideal to have an AGP/DDR1 board that I can use for testing stuff.

Well I think my Midi stack is complete. Managed to pick up a Yamaha MU50 for £60+P&P. Don't really need to add anything else to it now. I actually think for owning retro hardware I'm pretty much done. Got a few machines now which covers a pretty much all games I want to play. Soo going to have a massive purge, being ruthless and keeping stuff I only really want.

@LewisRaz I popped that P3 550 in the post on tues. Should be with you tomorrow.

@cee-S-dee Cheers mate!

That midi stack is looking great!

Which one is your favourite or go-to?

I'd say the SC-55 is the safe bet and the De-facto when it comes to Midi for DOS games, but from my brief listen to the MU50 its sample quality and balance is in the same ball park as the SC-55. I'm looking forward to testing some games on it.

Today I bought a "Nvidia GTS 250 256Mb" for £1 from CEX using a trade in voucher

It arrived, as passive card that requires a 6 pin connector... Guess what it is?

It's a 1GB ASUS GTS 250 e-green. It would be pretty useful card with HDMI, DVI and VGA... if it had the fan that it was meant to come with too!

Ah well I'm sure I can sort something out.

My Asus P3C-E, 256MB RAMBUS and PIII 733 Slot-1 CPU arrived today, looks lovely condition wise, shame there was no I/O shield, but as a "standard" 2x PS/2, 2x USB, 2x DB9 under 1x Parallel layout I'm sure I've got one somewhere.

PIII straight back onto eBay as I have no need of the CPU.

Pretty sure you'd be able to mount a 60, 70 or 80mm fan on there without too much hassle!

Hi guys, it's my first post here :)
I bought this unit for 10£, but unfortunately the graphics card is having artefacts, I don't know exactly what's the culprit. Everything else works fine.

@cee-S-dee CPU arrived yesterday mate, hopefully get it fitted this weekend(I've googled how to remove the heatsink from my other p3 and looks like I am in for some fun :D ). Thankyou again!

Played some C&C Red Alert this morning on my P2 machine. I forgot how good the cutscenes are.

Considering adding a good DirectX 7 card to it and upgrading to a P3 800MHz or so so it can run a few more games.

Been pretty quiet on the retro lately but did pick these up:

Going to change my sound card setup to adlib - SW60XG - ESS Audiodrive. Should work better than the SBLive dos emulation. Could potentially use the live too I think.

It seems they might have some sort of wavetable too which might be interesting to look at.

Edit - Yep, found it here with samples: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=50552#p536905
