What retro things have you done today?

Excellent book that I supported on Kickstarter back then and highly recommend for any Amiga fans out there.
I even had a few email conversations with the author giving suggestions and such on what Amiga game to include and he seemed like a great guy.

In fact, he sent me this when all the KS book had been shipped out after I had been too late to back this specific limited edition on KS.

LE Putty Squad Boxed (only 100 exists)

This was a follow up to the 1992’s Amiga game Putty and completed in 1994 for the Amiga with reviews out, a demo and even a SNES port was released.
The Amiga version however disappeared until around 20 years later at Christmas 2013, developer System 3 together with members of the Amiga community finally got the game released as a free digital download.

There is quite an interesting story on how this game was saved.

Wow
I also never knew phyiscal copied existed. I rememeber System 3 well, not from Putty but Myth - History in the making.

The intro and game gave me nightmares as a child!

I did play Putty but read about the follow up Putty Squad but wasnt really that interested. IK+ and Myth were the games I played

@NinjaCool what do you make of the A500 mini?

I played Putty (called Super Putty on CD32) as well but like you, Myth and especially IK+ are games I played more, even bought the later CD32 editions of them :)

Putty and even Super Putty were sometimes mistaken for being the former MIA game Putty Squad from Amiga owners who had stashed their games up in the attic long ago.
They claimed they had the game in their possession but it always turned out to be Putty, much to the disappointment of Amiga enthusiasts over the years :p

My father managed to make a working c64 out of two broken machines from car boot sales, and also looked out all our old c64 stuff from the loft.

Since he has no intent on ever using it again, gave it all to me. So now got 2 working c64’s (one of which I grew up on), working 1541, iffy 1541 mkII, dot matrix printer, action replay cart, some original games and a ton of bootleg he got for my Christmas many years ago.

Pics to follow!

Excited for pics, this sounds amazing!!!

That is a loft find of dreams

Well I have real Amiga’s here but the A500 mini is a skip for me since it’s not really what I want.
I can see it being useful for some, especially the small size will make it easy to move around or take it with you to a friend’s place for some gaming.

I think that company should do a full size A600 (smallest Amiga with less keys so should be cheapest to make), with a working keyboard/mouse support but internally run with an emulator to keep costs down.

For me the important thing for a new Amiga is to feel close to the real thing, be able to play all games and give you the ability to add your own Amiga games.
Launch titles should probably include some iconic games like Alien Breed, Cannon Fodder, IK+, Superfrog, Sensible Soccer, Lemmings and Worms to name but a few.

It's the convenience for me - Having 'perfect emulation' of multiple Amigas which on paper reads like you dont need to configure the emulation settings for every game.

An A600 mini with working keyboard would have been really nice but no doubt added cost which some may not want to pay (£120 worth a try, £150 maybe not). Most games do not require keyboard either. I seem to only remember Gunship 2000 requiring full keyboard use. There was a lovely paper keyboard overlay :)

I had all those games you listed as a kid so have already lined them up to try on the A500 mini

Do you still have any original games for it? :)

I never had a C64 back in the day since I was born the same year the C64 launched :D
I was simple too young for the C64 era but what I do remember as a little kid is that the Amiga was very popular here and plenty were selling their C64 to help fund an Amiga.

A few years back, I was lucky to stumble onto a C64 that looked like it was fresh from the factory so I couldn't say no to such a find!
Btw if you use floppy disks make sure they are clean, as in no visible smudge /rot after all those years before you put them into a floppy drive.

Here is a video that shows you how to easily check for damaged floppy disks.

Dual 9800GTX's?

Or maybe SLI GTX 260's, I honestly can't think of ATI cards from that time that were as good as NVIDIA.
4870s in crossfire would be the ATI equivalent from that period

Thanks guys,

I was thinking HD4850's on the AMD front, but I guess the extra grunt of the HD4870 would make sense. will stick them on my watch list too

The GTX260's are a real temptation, I remember having one in my wives build years ago on 2GB RAM and an overclocked E5200 Wolfdale chip and that really was a punchy card, imagine 2 would be pretty powerful (in the stuff that works with it of course)

Seems like the decision has been made.

Message from friend at work earlier, he found my old Gainward GTX260 GS that I totally forgot I had learnt him several years ago. Just found a matching card on eBay and put in offer of £15 which was accepted :)

Exciting times, the build is a go. Just need to research what sort of PSU I need now and locate a decent 775 Cooler so I can clock that Q66600. I am assuming that there aren't AIO's that support 775?
