What retro things have you done today?

I'll look into those, thanks very much. The only reason I ask is I wouldn't want to end up with fake branded ones, which I'd imagine is quite possible with some sellers on eBay.

As long as you stick to the bigger sellers you can usually fish out what is fake and what is not. Most component sites want you to buy in builk which is why I prefer to get a few at a time from ebay.
@cee-S-dee has done a good job on that! Ive done 3 motherboards now and slowly getting better from the abomination that was the 386 motherboard :D

helped my brother move yesterday and we found his "Philips G7000" otherwise known as the Magnavox Odyssey and games from our childhood in one of the boxes, he knows I collect retro consoles so gave me it :D

Saw a FB add for an old PC. Had to grab myself this mystery box as I am a sucker for systems with matching monitors. I already have a keyboard and mouse to go with this :D

Have not really had a look yet other than to crack the case open. Its filthy inside so will need a real clean. The cmos battery is also a coin cell but bigger than the regular ones.

Looks to be a 350mhz P2 with 128mb of ram. 6gb hdd and an ATI rage pro in its AGP slot. Was not expecting an AGP slot so thats a bonus.

The big ebay lot turned up too. There is a whole lot of junk in there and not actually any soundcards!.. But the tseng et3000ax works fine. (I just had to test that first!)
There is also an ati 9600pro and a geforce 3ti 500 that interest me the most. Will take a long time to check everything but there is a few interesting parts for sure.

Ti500 is a nice score! Was it the Leadtek card? I like that Compaq also and matching monitor is nice!

I been playing a bit of Doom today. Been focusing on my K6-III build over the past few days.

yes it was that one! Good spot! Seems the ti 200 I recently acquired from someone may already see an upgrade :p

I still need to test it but after the tseng worked and seeing the amazing condition of all of the other parts I am hopeful that a lot will work.

You were correct about the Mach64 too!

Fingers crossed the Ti500 is good :-) Will be easy enough to move the Ti200 on and get some money for it.

This is the PC as it is right now. The Sound setup is a SB Live! and a Reveal SC500 (Opti, YMF OPL3, Crystal/Dream GM Synth) which is pretty tame by my standards but works really well. Rest of the system is , K6-III+@550mhz, Asus P5A-B, 128mb Ram, AGP Voodoo 3 3000, PCI Matrox M3D PowerVR, in a nice AT case.

Well that lot seems a bit of a bust :(

List of working cards:

SIS 6326 8mb
SIS 6326 8mb
ATI mach64PCI
ATI 3D Rage II
Tseng ET3000AX.

Also 2x AGP cards that only fit compaq OEM machines work.

The Leadtek card has bulging caps so I will replace those and see if it comes to life. The GF4 MX 440 also has cap issues but isnt worth fixing imo.

I will recoup my costs by selling the Tseng. And the card I had my eyes on works at least. Was just hoping for a bit more to work. I cant test the 9600pro as it wont fit my AGP slot.

Ah, that's a bummer. Hopefully you can at least recover your losses as you say. Will be interesting to see if the Leadtek card can be fixed (is that the GF2 Pro?).

With regards to recapping, I'm sure a few of you may have already come across this website but it looks to me like a useful concise guide to getting the job done properly: http://www.capacitorlab.com/index.htm

Yea I thought it was a Ti 500 at first but after studying some pics online it matches the gf2 pro more closely.. I was playing around with the Tseng card today trying to get it to work under windows 95 but only had slight success. Its really not meant for such "new" things. I did have a game of lemmings using it tho! Looks great in DOS.

I probably wont get to work on it for a while. Getting new furniture this weekend so I can set myself up a retro system in the bedroom. (I have a walk in wardrobe so it will be quite stealthy! :D ) Also updating my server and main pc so the retro might take a back seat.

I didn't want to start a new thread so I thought I would ask here.

I want to dig out my N64 and get the best picture possible without any mods.

I've been watching a lot of MyLifeInGaming and it seems SVideo is the best cable. I then found out that apparently SVideo output isn't supported on PAL consoles?!

Not easy to get a good picture from an actual N64 without mods unfortunately.

There has been some really good advances on the modding of them tho for HMDI or composite over the last few years if you did change your mind about modding.

Took a day off work as I was shattered and thought I would relax and tinker with some of my ongoing pcs.
Broke my p3 system. the text on the POST page was all purple (although some of it white) then after post the pc speaker went crazy and now it wont boot.(I only removed the GPU to test another gpu I have)
Spent way too long trying to get my IDE-CF adapter working on the 486 so I can copy the entire winows 3.1 install files over from another pc (I have the disks but half of them dont work anymore). The problem is the CF card is 16gb but I spent a long time trying to work around it without success.

One of those days where nothing went right :(
