What retro things have you done today?

Just bought a GeForce 4 Ti 4800, supposedly fully working for £35. Fingers crossed!

Also bought, but not sure whether it’ll be of any use, a PCI to 4x Compact Flash card that can operate in RAID 0, 1 or 10 as well as JBOD. Could be a useful way to run multiple disks in this Athlon XP system without the need for any SATA cables.

Indeed. I stumbled across it looking to see if a PCI SSD existed.

I've seen some IDE direct plug in SSDs (all contained on one small board with an IDE plug) but i imagine the performance is terrible.

Never seen a PCI SSD, seems a bit odd given the availability of all the components to make one, suppose the market demand is exceptionally poor, but probably far higher than a CF raid solution :D

Yeah I used to have one in an old 1U server, 32GB i think it was. Pretty poor speed and also takes up a whole IDE channel for one device.

Just tested, putting out 6v down the 5v rail.

Erm, i hope that was quite a while back!

:o

I was in a much different situation back then and needed the ££.(I paid £10 for the pair at a car boot!) I also hold 0 nostalgia for 3dfx my interest in them is mostly just a curiosity! The v3 in my main retro rig is a weak link and there is a geforce 3 ti 200 without a home in my parts box...

If I was to win this one I would probably rebuild my 450mhz k6-3 and pair it with an s3 virge and sb16.

Also not exactly retro related but used on my retro pc.. I picked up some creative gigaworks T20s last night. Those little guys pack a fair bit of noise for the size of them! Not magnetically shielded tho as I found out.

Well its not all good news. The floppies are dead. Killed by my 486's floppy drive!! And I discovered the 3.5mm jack on my adlib is very loose.

Still. The value is in the boxes moreso than the media. And the TTDLX cd is fine :D
