What sort of headphone do YOU use?

Sennheiser HD280Pro here.
Sounds awesome, although can put some pressure on the ears.

I use some Sennheiser PC150 for voice comm gaming.

well, my speakers cost the same as your hifi (got some quad 22L's) :p
it depends on what you feed them with of course.

Nice :)

It's just I just thought you were comparing value for money of headphones and speakers, but you weren't.

Seems we have a lot of expertise in here :) so I was wondering if anyone could help me choose some decent headphones, closed preferably for on the move?

Just need to match it with my Rio Karma mp3/.ogg player, I currently use those sony ex71's but I'm hating in ear ones now, I also use my HD580's at home

Oh yeah , budget not over £50 ;)

Cheers

well i just got myself some sony ex-90's and tbh....their really rather good. if you want a quick opinion, they are basically ex71's without the lumpy bass or the shrill treble. plus they dont fall out my ears, which is nice. i'll review them soon.

I'll hopefully be getting a pair of Porta Pros on Wednesday. :D Was going to go for the CX300s but my EX71s still work great so I thought I'd experiment a bit more. :D

Beyerdynamic DT231 galactic

Bought them about 3 years ago for £30, great set of headphones, really impressed with them, never let me down.

I've tried a pair of £100 Schin-thingy-whatsits and the only difference was, these were more comfortable!

Sennheiser MX550.

Why does everyone use the 500's and not 550's?

because the 550's arent a model above the 500's so to speak. they are just...different. the 550s are more forward and top-end heavy, whereas the 500's are warmer and more laid back. easier on the ears for extended listen. its just down to preferance really.

It was just one of those great ebay moments unfortunetely.

Better than great tbh.

Good find.

If these broke tomorrow, i'd want another pair, or at least from the same company, impressive stuff, last 3 years, been stood on, sat on, the cable's been caught by someone walking past throwing them across the room on several occasions, and still perfect sound.

I'd have expected a loose connection by now.

whats the difference between open n closed in terms of h-phones?

well closed headphones are more desirable for those who want more isolation from everyday outside noises and not to disturb others.

open headphones leak more sound out but also it leak more in.

so depending on you situation then the choice is yours.

You've missed out that closed headphones suffer from a lack of soundstage and 'airiness' compared to open models. (Listen to a pair of AKG K240S if you want a good example of a nice, natural sounding open headphone)

As has been said, they are in most respects identical.
+ The MX550s wernt out when the MX500s were released.
+ The MX500s were a pain for me to find, never mind the MX550s. :p

The cables on my MX500s are starting to fray a bit, so im hoping to pick up some good headphones from Manchester Airport before i get on the plane in a few days.
